    Smile Taiyo Electron Challenge Ball

Here is the Taiyo Electron Challenge Ball machine that liberated from the flea market last week.
She sure is DIRTY! It seems like everything needed to play this machine is present ... well except for the front lower cover.

Nice find. Sent you a private message. Any help we can be just ask. Don

You know the more I look at the machine I do not think it will matter if you have the front cover. You could easily prefab something for that. Have you tried to play it yet? It needs for lights in a row to pay out one and my Taiyo pays out 16 tokens if you get all the lights on. Never happens unless you load it yourself. You can use alot of different tokens or dollars to play the machine.

OK, now the front is clean. Lots of Windex and cleaning foam.
Check out the cell-pica brushes and that's after a pre-clean with Windex.

I posted this on Mbodi machine and should of posted here. I have a nice pdf file of the placard on my taiyo that i could send if you send me your email. I have done this for other members. You could also wait until I get home in May and I would go and have a nice glassy photo taken and mail it to you. Let me know.

I fired her up and she seems to work.
I added 16 balls dropped in a token and JOY ...
The shooter works but 3 bulbs on the number display are out.
It looks like the bulbs are soldered in. (Anyone know where I can find these small bulbs?)
Pushed the payout button and it even pays out!
Didn't need the lower front cover to play but I think a junk machine that I have just might have the cover I need.
Here are a few pics of the back.

I've never seen soldered in bulbs but could be a possibility. although that obviously makes changing bulbs for the parlor owner very difficult with considerable downtime for the machine. as for other info about this machine, check out mbodi's thread on his same challenge ball. it has lots of answers to questions you will likely have. you can also search this forum for satomi, taiyo, arrangeball, etc. and it will pull up all the threads on pretty much everyone's arrange balls machine when they received them. some basic info about these should be a sticky. there's a link with a small amount of info in the arrangeball group but I don't think anyone goes to it. it's sorta out of sight and out of mind. ideally this would be it's own forum along with vintage, modern, etc.

They should be the bayonet style bulbs. Probably feel soldered from the corrossion holding them. The ones that I thought were out on my machine, worked after I re-seated them.

I was wrong about the bulbs. Not bayonet style, but the wheat type. I actually have one out on mine.
Checked the voltage: 28v. Looks like the same bulb I need for the Fuji machine.
I'll see if bulb town has them.

John, you were right about the bulb number in the other thread. T-3/4.
#2185 miniature bulb, wire terminal base, 28v, 0.04 amp.
    Bulbtown has them.

They're actually T 1-3/4 bulbs. I think that refers to the general size but they come in wire base, screw base , etc. and have various voltages and amps. You just gotta get the ones with the closest specs to what a given machine needs.

Well I did not look up the spec but I am using 2187 in mine that use the wire. I have one at home that uses the 2182. FYI

Don, thanks for the photo of the placard. Did a dry run on a pice of cardboard. Photo below shows it on the machine.
I'll do another one on photo paper. Looks like the placard on my Fuji machine is a close match for size and shape, so I'll use that as my template for the permanent one. I'll also print one out for Dr. Dark.

Looks good. I do not think cardboard for a backing will hold up over the long run. I used plexiglass on mine and really liked it. I realize this was just a test run. Made the mistake of ordering Lexan just once. Three times the price of plexiglass.

finally some definitive info regarding light bulbs. this pic is of the number matrix and sequential lights on either side of the matrix on my Taiyo Magic Neon made18APR80. lots of bulbs since each "block" on the sides is lit by two lights. anyway, i was doing some cleaning and poking around and noticed that on each bulb was a heat shrink gray colored band that held the wire leads firmly in place as they exit thru the bottom and up the sides of the silicon socket. printed on the band is the word "Stanley" as well as 24.0V and .04A
obviously these are the specs for this machine but are probably the same for other Taiyos.

    Good to know.
The ones I ordered look the same with same amperage, but 28v instead of 24v.
If the 28's are too dim, then the 24's should brighten things up.

Mopar had started writing the numbers on the different arrangeballs that we have gotton over the last couple of years on the inside of the machine. Just a suggestion. Please let us know what the final results are.
