This is my first fully cyclic conversion. A MONAKO Vintage pachinko Machine...

This Machine was missing most of the back plastic and missing a tulip. There are not a lot of parts machines available for this uncommon Monako; thus an excellent candidate for a conversion. Thanks, Mopar for the tulips!

    In the back pictures:
The tulip opening mechanism was left in place from the original Machine.
¾” pieces were ripped from a 1x4 for the wood pieces. Where pachinko balls would come in contact with the wood, metal foil tape was placed on the vertical surfaces and Plexiglas strips were placed on the horizontal surfaces. Metal tape was also placed on the horizontal surfaces except near the sensor where the reflection interfered with the win sensor.
Although not very visible, there is a reflective sensor on the shooting handle side of the Machine (follow the wires).
The counter is from Gaku on eBay. The wood for the counter back board is MDF with a Plexiglas front panel and a chrome T molding. The counter area was routed to accept the counter’s two circuit boards (back to back).

    In the front pictures:
Plexiglas was attached to the top of the top tray to create a sealed area (less dust).
The existing plastic piece was slightly modified to allow a pachinko ball to be loaded just above the front tray.
Although not visible, there is a reflective sensor near the shooting handle.

This game is now fully cyclic. Unless a pachinko ball is shunted to the bottom tray (weak shot that falls back down), no pachinko ball handling / reloading is required. Seventeen (17) pachinko balls is a FINE number for this Machine. It is easy to play a certain amount of shots and keep score. My score for 100 shots was 735 balls won or a balance of 635. The counter is set to award 15 balls per win. The fully cyclic conversion makes it fun to play! Easy to keep score!

Next upgrade for this machine? Lights and sounds? Was thinking about trying an Arduino for this…

Monako? I don't think I have heard of that brand.

It looks like the yellow version of an Okumara-Yuki machine to me.

Here is a close up of the upper right corner of THIS MACHINE. Says "MONAKO"

My translation source for Japanese says Okumura Yuki is the designer of the game and designed a number of games.

There is a listing that just ended on eBay for an early modern:MAGICAL LAMP PACHINKO MACHINE BY MONAKO

I had a DIFFERENT machine that definitely had back plastics that said DAIICHI, but had same name on front "Okumura Yuki" and also said "Monako" in English and Japanese.

Here are some pictures of that DIFFERENT machine:

In the last picture, you can see the DAIICHI name and the Japanese characters translate to Monako.
Second picture says Monako in English.

    It is a mystery!

No reward for the effort though? I like being the Go - To person but there should be a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Has the counter been known difficult to work? I got the idea here from another member.

Sometimes the win sensor is fooled and rewards two for one, I continue to try solutions for that, I think unwanted reflections are the issue...

Very odd. Then again I only own one okumara-yuki machine and I can't tell much from it as the playfield is gone.

But I do have the back. And you can tell the back mechanics are defiantly built by okumara-yuki as no other company I have seen uses a similar back.

This pic may explain the answer to this odd question.

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/vintage...57625245042088

It looks like the brand / company that these machines are is Monako-Okumarayuki so the 2 names are actually 1.

I have a vintage Okumurayuki that also says Monico...and has the same Victory symbol below the tray. Monico is at the low ball light. Also says Victory on a sticker. The jackpot seesaw housing is square. Since the ball dump cover was missing I had to modify one from a newer vintage and made it work. Plenty more pics here: Okumurayuki ! Every Okumurayuki I have seen pics of had all, or most of these characteristics. It also says Daiichi at the U turn below the ball hopper. I can't find the pic on my hard drive...but it is in post #20 of the link above.

Okumura still makes machines..Their old web address just a few years ago used to be monako.co.jp and now its okumura-yuuki.com..so I guess even after all these years they still cant decide what they want to be called!!

To modern pachi people, we just know them as Okumura!!

    Post Re: Fully CYCLIC Vintage

    Guys...

The company name is Monako-Okumura. They have used either of these names (including both 'Monako' and 'Monaco' and of course, 'Okumura') on their machines throughout the years, as it suited them.

Yuki is just a suffix added to company names in Japanese meaning 'machine maker'. It seems in their current guise, they prefer just Okumura-yuuki Corporation. So be it.

The complete history of all their pachinko machines from 1985 is available on that website you reference, btw.
Check out : http://www.okumura-yuuki.com/products/indexdate.html and select a year, then a machine from the drop down boxes.

I stole all this info many years ago and then translated it over when I was making up the Monako-Okumura section of pachimono.com - so it is all preserved for posterity in English, should that section of their site disappear (which sometimes happens with manufacturers unfortunately).
There is always another machine around the corner...

I don't know, no. But I suspect it is just a nice english word they decided to stick on all their machines, like many other manufacturers did with other english words and phrases to decorate all their machines. It could be a phase or entire line of model, but I don't have any info on the Monako line that indicates that's the case - I'd just be guessing.

I was hoping to wait for the video until after ther lights and sounds were working. Max ALWAYS wants video, now you too? I thought it was only the youtube generation but apparently video fever is spreading... although admittedly, you are one of the video pioneers on the vintage forum!

Anyhow, I have great dreams/visions involving the sound and lights! Inspired by an EM pinball machine - just yesterday!

Will make a video soon and post, absolutely!

Here is a link to a video with the bell and lights working.

Was not able to figure out how to get the "WIN" signal from the Gaku Counter, although I'm sure it can be done.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2emfRq0EWs

Set it up with an Arduino, a micro switch to record "WINS"; a mini push button to turn off the bell; and a doorbell transformer that powers the counter with 16V DC; the Arduino with 8V DC and the bell with 16V AC. Think Mopar will admire my bridge rectifiers!
