Default Answer to mysterious Nishijin model B wire

Well I was working on the machine I was restoring. And you know that little wire that comes off the chute that goes to the lower tray. (wire that goes from it towards the shooter) Well I was playing around with it and finally figured out what it does.

Basically it is a stop feed for the machine. So if too many balls collect in that trap it will push the little door on the side out. Which then pushes the wire out. Which then disengages the ball feed arm making it impossible to let balls feed into the shooter. (Sorry if it sounds complicated. You can get the idea from the pics. )

Basically I wanted to see how the overflow worked on the upper tray. You know if you get too many balls in it they automatically drain to the bottom tray. Well I kept piling the balls in and then I finally could no longer shoot a ball out of the shooter. As it was disengaged.

Also for those of you interested. It took about 750 balls to shut off the feed with both trays filled. (you must be a real blind pachinko player to not see that both your trays are full ) But you can also disengage it by only filling the bottom tray which takes about 300 balls. (use overflow chute from top tray. And you still must be pretty blind not to see that, that tray is full. )

Anyways I just thought I'd share my discovery on what that little wire does.

    Pics:

#1: shows that the chute is filled. (can see balls in the crack) and that the door is pushed out.
#2: shows the wire disengaging the arm
#3: The balls plugging up the machine. (had to use a clamp because we were running out of balls. )
#4: Shows that not balls are able to enter the shooter. (you shouldn't be able to line up 3 balls in the loader normally)
#5: Shows the balls spilled into the trays.
#6: Shows how many balls it took to completely clog the machine.

    yeppers..

main reason for this feature is, if the machine fills up the back with winners it will jam the jackpot mech and then build a normal ball jam.. then nothing will work.

I did the same thing with my 1976 Sankyo. I wanted to see how many balls it took before it triggered the wire and disabled the shooter. I forget how much it took but it was a lot. I am sure this was useful in the parlors but for home use I can not see it happening.

I don't think a personal owner will be able to get that many balls stuck in it.

Was all that ball counting with or without the wood jam in the top tray?

That was all the balls behind the wood and in the lower tray. If you want plus the tray add about 50 balls.

There must have been a way to cheat.

Let the pachinko balls pile up in the bottom tray and eventually the lost balls would come out in the shooting tray?

The Model A has a hole in the frame where lost balls fall out. Would be interesting to see if there was just a bucket under each machine or a more sophisticated system in that era.

    no way to cheat..

the balls will back up all the way to the jackpot mech and jam the machine..

lost balls exit from a different point so they will keep falling out the other dump point no matter how may are won.

I remember being baffled with that wire with my first Nishijin. I wasnt sure which side of the plastic actuator it belonged until I thought it all out. Crazy engineering!
