Default Help with a coin changer

I posted a question about what this was in the Vintage section and got some really good info. I wanted to go more in depth with it and figured it shouldn't be in the Vintage section. After reading, I am amazed at how uncommon these things are. Mine changes quarters to nickles. I found where I can get some replacement parts (not cheap) in the links that were given to me.

All of the pictures I was seeing showed the machine in red. Sure enough, when I opened it up the inside was red! Someone painted it black. So on to my questions
    :
What do you think is the best way to get the black paint off of the outside?

The chrome parts do have screws holding them in place so I can remove them. What is the best way for me to shine up the chrome parts?

And, I'm not sure what to do with the handle...any ideas?Change Machine1.jpg

I guess I'll get to the inside parts. I don't have a clue there.

might be a total mess but i used to rent a house of an old school auto body guy.. (well he was really a drug addict) either way.. one time a guy brought over a van with a mural painted on the hood.. he used easyoff oven cleaner to remove the mural and it dident touch the high quaility paint under it... might be a trick for ya... might take all the paint off???

Taking off all the paint and then repainting might give you the best result.

I agree with taking off all of the paint, but how to do that? I don't have a sandblaster and I don't want to scratch it. Also, any ideas on polishing up the chrome and getting it back in form? I can remove the chrome.

If you can disassemble everything down to just the metal exterior parts, you should be able to soak them in a paint stripping solution to remove all the paint. I cannot tell from the picture how bad the chrome is.

First off if you are able to use a buffing wheel, use that it will works best. (You can buy buffing wheels for a bench grinder or a drill press. Harbor Freight tools has a nice little starter box.
Aluminum Polishing Tool Kit - 14 Piece)

Second they may need to be replated depending on how much chrome is actually left. Because buffing will take off a little of that too. And the least you want is to have the copper base plate showing through.

If that link above don't work go here. http://www.harborfreight.com/catalog...sult?q=buffing

i would shy away form sand blasting it.. sand blasters will take bits of metal off leaving you a rough surface..

as was said, removing the paint to bare metal and then repainting it will give the best results.to remove the paint,i would use a da sander with 80 grit paper.if you don't have that equipment,i would go with aircraft stripper.

    You could do soda blasting.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodablasting

It would still take the paint off but yet leave a smoother surface than sandblasting.

Most places that powder coat will also do soda blasting or other forms of it.
