Question Strip of dead screen on Back to the Future

This is the newer Sammy Back to the Future. Played fine for a few months, then one strip on the screen started to fade a bit. It would be fine sometimes then be bad other times. It went black a few times, but would always come back on. One day I turned it on and it was just black, and it has never gone back to working again.

Everything else works fine, game runs its course, sounds all play, I hope it is just a loose connection, but don't know if that would just make one part of the screen go out. I have pulled and cleaned some connections, but this one has a lot. Some connections I would have to drill out to get too, so I wanted to ask everyone before opening casings to test.

    Thanks
    ~Dave

Sorry your having problems, I haven't done anything with a Sammy, I had the screen out of one of my sankyo cels last month. That came apart quite quickley. But they seemed to use a lot of colour coded plugs and sockets, But yours are all white. I would take lots of pics and if possible label the wires as you go. Underneath all the boards I found the screen was connected by just one ribbon cable, Yours is probably the same but Its finding the right cable. Take your time and you should find it.
If you find you need a new screen, they can be tricky and/or expensive to find. make sure you find the make and model number of the screen before your reassembly it after checking the plugs

I'm not familiar with this particular machine or it's LCD display circuits, but in this case I'd suspect something more than a simple connector problem.

My first guess as to the likely cause is an internal connection or driver problem within the LCD panel itself. If the LCD panel is LED backlit then it might be a backlight issue, but you can usually still see a feint image if that's the case (and I've only ever seen fluorescent backlit panels in pachinko machines).

Other than that it could be a display ROM/RAM issue on the A/V board. If there are any socketed chips or modules on the board with the bunch of black wires coming out of the middle, try gently pressing on them with the power on and see if there is any change in the display. (It might be worth trying this on soldered chips as well, as a dry solder joint could cause problems like this).

If you need a new LCD they can be found. I was able to find a replacement LCD for a Sankyo Star Wars/Indiana Jones on eBay. You will have to strip down the cell to find out the screen model but it should be labeled with the make and model.

Other then the screen, how do you like the game? I had an older BTTF and it wasn't that much fun. This one looks much better.

I like it a lot. It covers all three movies... has a mix of movie footage and big head cartoon footage. I uses a lot of the music, even if just instrumental. All the backgrounds, and scenes change depending what year you are in.

To everyone else, thanks, I will fiddle around with the back and see if I get anything to return, I don't see any images on the black strip, so I don't think its backlit. Was out of town this weekend, so today will be my first chance trying anything.
