    Default Nishijin C "Super Bang"

Having trouble loading post so I'll try later but it's a submarine vs. ship theme where the player tries to sink ships and therefore open tulips.

ok, round 3. so the machine is a nishijin C with the words "super bang" atop the center feature. it's a naval battle theme in which you try to sink ships that are traveling across the center screen. this is done by getting balls in the upper left or right pockets with a sub on them or in the top pocket of the center feature. the center feature itself displays red and green ships that slowly move from right to left. when a ball goes in the correct pocket, the bonus mode starts and the ships move faster. the player then presses one of the 3 buttons on the left side of the machine. which one pressed dictates whether your torpedo goes right, left, or a curvy center path. as your torpedo travels forward, it's path is lit up by subsequent light so that you can monitor it's progress so to speak. if one ship is hit, an explosion occurs that slowly fades away and the bottom right and left tulips open. if two ships are hit (one on top of the other) then all 7 tulips open up along with the accompanying explosion. there's also a sound effect that occurs when a torpedo is fired and one for the explosion. if you miss there's of course no explosion but the bottom center tulip opens as compensation for hitting a bonus pocket but it's the bottom center pocket and is hardest to hit. there's also a periscope with a purple lens that lights up but the bulb is burned out. i'm guessing it comes on during the bonus mode and can be seen in the pics.
it's a very cool machine and extremely rare since i've never heard much less seen one here or on yja. it's more fun than a power flash and power roulette IMO, and is an interesting step in the evolution of pachinko machines as they progressed to what they are today. it does remind me of the super ufo i posted about awhile back and a power roulette in that the player tries to utilize the bonus to open as many tulips as possible.
it's in good shape, just needs cleaning up. the center screen has some gunk on it as well as the usual build up of dust. i've already taken it apart since it wouldn't exit the bonus mode at first. i cleaned all the connections and removed some trash stuck to the circuit board, put it all back together and it works fine now. i cleaned the plastic insert that has the ships and explosion on it with novus and the colors are brighter. i did the same on the torpedo path plastic. both of these plastics are thin cards basically that fit in grooves that are then backlit by mini lamps.
i forgot how easy C's are to take apart. the whole ball handling layer just clips in-no screws. all the electrical connections simply plug into the board so in no time i had that layer off to check things out.
pics will do a better job of explaining but not in order:
pics of the plastic cards with graphics on them
    periscope
    torpedo light box
    bonus buttons
    ship/explosion light box
    front of machine
    back of machine
    submarine bonus pocket
    right side of frame

it reminds me of the old school gun games with the 3d/holographic targets. also the upper left and right submarines are not pockets but are pass thrus.

i saw it during my usual Craigslist search and then checked on here to see if it had been posted. it had so I knew I had to be quick. I called the seller to make sure it worked and that he still had it. I was on the road within 10 minutes of seeing the ad.

    looks like an amazing find

yeah i saw that ad not long after he posted it but by the time i got there he already had quite a few calls. not much background info on the machine other than he'd had it for 20 years and it's been sitting up for a long time. it was brought to him from japan if i remember correctly so it wasn't one that was shipped over en masse for sale here. i'll get a video up sometime this weekend.
here's a few more pics that may be a little sharper. i used a digital camera and finally tried the macro mode. the pic of the screen picks up the dirt and stuff on it it but it does show the ships more clearly. the ship screen is set back into the machine so it adds depth to the whole effect but that's not apparent in the pics.

it seems the few C models i've seen do have these types of elaborate center features and maybe i saw a surfing themed one with a screen to it? can't remember for sure. i believe it was on ebay.

I checked and it isn't on ebay. I think it was CL. I saw that machine too but passed it kinda quickly as it was too far from me.

    Can't wait for a video

I remember that one too but it's not the one I'm thinking of. I was thinking at the time what was the large, rectangular empty space in the playfield's center. Now I know it was very likely a display of some sort.
