Default What's the function of a key in a pachinko machine?

As per the topic, can anybody please explain to me what the purpose of a pachinko key is and whether we need to purchase that ? Thanks so much!

A pachinko key does two things, turn it one way and it will open the front glass, turn it the other way and it will open the machine from the frame..Helpful if you have the machine mounted in a cabinet..

If you have access to the back of the machine you don't really need a key since you can open everything from the back..although I do remember someone saying that there wasn't a way to open the glass on the new Sankyo frames from the back, but I'm not sure if its true..

I would say get at least one key..most (not all) machines since the '90s use the same lock so even if you only have one key you'll be able to open all of your machines..

There is no "easy" way to open the glass on the new sankyo's. I did figure out how to on the eva but it is not easy to get it open as there is no lever anymore, you must press and slide the metal bar with your fingertips and it will open most of the time.

This is the key I just bought for my Gladiator 9 Drum. It is the same for all the Modern pachinko machines it said. But it fits perfectly but doesn't turn either way. 320806136396_1.jpg OMLOCK Made in China

Yes, it took about 3 hours work, 5oz strong wood glue, untold number small screws and nails and the frame from a 73 Nishijin but I got it running. Looks great as long as you don't look at the frame.

I had a iffy lock on one of my machines. I carefully removed the slide out section on the top/bottom of the lock. Took out all the springs and brass tumblers. Then refitted the top/bottom section. So now it works with the key or anything the right shape to fit in. But I would always use the key.

I did it to most of mine(before keys were common), only took a few minutes each..

I took my omron lock out and went to the local locksmith who wanted $100 to make a key for it and he wouldn't remove the tumblers because that isn't a professional thing to do.
Sadly I'm missing a lock for my Ice Paradise and the trips on these machines are all different.
So hopefully I can find one eventually.
Oh and the local locksmith wanted $40 to copy a key if I brought one into him.

I wanted to let you know I took the pins out of a omron lock this morning. Took about 5 min, I ground the tabs off with a dremel, pulled the plates off and shook everything out. now anything that fits in the hole will turn it. So it is an option for Julie.

This is likely what I will have to do I'm just a bit worried about getting it all back together and still having it work.

I am trying the Keylock Mod. But when I open up to take out the 2 pan head screws I notice this on the front of the lock Photo0270.jpg. A plate over the lock and all I can find is one screw at the top of the plate in the back. The outside areas of the frame around that area of the lock there are no areas with screws. It almost looks like I have to unscrew the inner frame from top to bottom.

When I look at the back of the lock it looks like they screwed it in backwards. Instead of the 2 pan screws going in from the back they are going in from the front. Only the Trip Dog screw is in the back. It does show it is a Omron lock and the 2 triangles on the front are facing each other and at the top.

Does anyone else have the Gladiator that can verify theirs in made the same way or any ideas??

Ok I tried the mod but it looks like I will need a Dremel in order to grind off the tabs. They are far too tiny to grab with even needle nosed pliers.
I guess I can always get a Dremel for my birthday next month.

I broke a tiny flat blade screwdriver trying to pry them back. Then I took a dremel to it and they were all gone in less than a minute

I've tried everything including an icepick there isn't enough purchase to bend anything back. These were crimped using a machine they aren't tabs so much as they are crimped out of the side metal onto the top plate.
I hate to buy a Dremel just for this. However I might have some other things around the house that a dremel might be good for.

Ok that sells me on it. Now I just have to sort through 100's of different models and combinations.
    I'm thinking a 4000 model with a few attachments.
    That's like $79.
