Default Self Cleaning Blast Gate for Ball Shutoff

I bought a self cleaning blast gate to use as a ball shutoff for the hopper. This way you can just set this up close the plate and run a few balls to empty what's in the tube and you can then open the door.
I made a video of it while I was testing it. It doesn't jam.
These cost around $10 and then almost $9 for shipping.
Let me know what you think of the video. I'll make another one when I have it hooked up to a hopper.

Actually a 4" blast gate would be twice the size of the one I have. I have a 2" blast gate.
This is the lin to the company I ordered it from. They sent it out very quickly. I got it in just a few days.
They also have quantity pricing as well. These are really heavy duty gates but the total circumference
is 2 1/4" so you'll need a PVC pipe with a 2 1/4" or so OD (outside diameter)
When the company says 2" they mean ID (inside dia.) including a bit of the gate that is slightly covered by
    the sliding plate.
if you get one take it to Home Depot or wheverever you get your PVC pipe to make sure
    it fits.
I might do that tomorrow if the snow storm isn't too bad

That is a great idea for a hopper dump.If a connecting rod was attached to the shut off plate that extended outside of the cabinet through a little hole and a knob put on you could open or close it without opening the cabinet up.Thanks for sharing that

Yes you would need something to slide the gate back and forth over the hopper. That should be pretty easy since it has a lip. The important thing is now no balls all over the floor from the hopper.

Plus this doesn't jam. I stuffed it into a big jar of balls and it slid shut nice as you please. The price is right too when you consider it will shutoff the balls which is better than shoving foam into the hopper hole.

They also offer pricing deals depending on the amount that you order. So for someone with a LOT of machines like Owennewton or Max. The price would drop even further as the quantities go up.
I would try and get a better deal on 20 of them and if I was going to place an order you can bet I would. Remember I used to do this for a living.

If I ever get a case built this is the way to go... JUST have to make something to pull it open
    and closed...

I wanted to work on doing that but my wife and I are deciding if we should take a woodworking course.
Still not certain as it's expensive.
But the blast gate only needs a rod at one end. The end with the locking screw has 1/4" of clearance when fully pushed in.
Just attach a threaded rod by drilling a hole in that end and have some sort of way to grab it. Know or something
The length will vary but not by a lot.
You need to have enough for it to be sticking out past the cabinet when pushed fully in, but it will normally
    be all the way out.
Basically like a longer version of the lock screw that comes with it and probably a 1/4-20 in size.
    At least it's one possibility.

I will need something like that when I build my wall! My current idea is almost exactly the same concept, except homemade.

I can tell you honestly this blast gate is one tough part, it's cast aluminum. You can make a blast gate yourself but I doubt it will be as tough as this one. This is a professional grade part. Far above Home Depot type of stuff.
No harm in making it yourself tho.
