    Default Photo uploads failing

I am trying to upload photos taken with my new camera, and getting a message "upload failed."
I really need some help to understand why that would happen. It is a new camera, but the shots are in the someplace in iPhoto as the pictures taken with the old camera. As you can see below, Files: 0 and Total Size: 0
Also what is the Exclamation point trying to tell me? Since this was taken with the new camera, one thought that cameo mind is, is the file size too big?

What is the file size; because I don't think your able to load anything bigger than 2MB. That is what the exclamation mark means is that it failed because the file was corrupted or it is too large.

My suggestion would be either try to shrink the file size or drop the resolution on your camera. Then try it again.

yes I am probably trying to load too large a file. BTW, where are the rules such as that posted somewhere on PT? As another attempt I will see if I canada a screenshot of the problem to make sure it is readable

    upload.png

If that tiny shot is readable, it says '2.37 MB' so if the limit is 2.0MB that is my problem

That's it then. I have a couple shots I would like to post now, taken with the camera on a smaller resolution. About 1.4 MB. I think you guys nailed me right away. This camera will take up to 12 MB on a picture and that is where it was set. for these two I reset to M2 which is 1600 X 1200 or 842 KB according to I photo..IMG_0016.jpg now for the next one. straight from the "insert Image" icon on this very page.IMG_0017.jpg 500+something MB

seems to be just fine now. If I forget, to reset the little Canon, it just won't upload. Nice reminder!

    Thanks again for the help.

Why don't you just upload your pics to Photobucket and then post the link here That saves a lot of headaches and it's what I do when I want to post a picture.
The website will automatically resize it as well. Plus it's free.

only bad thing about off site hosting is some members can't see the pics as they are behind firewalls that block linked pics

I believe that PachiTalk downloads the pic locally. At least is says it does when I upload it.

really I have loaded a way bigger .jpg file. I think the biggest I was able to load took close to 1.48 MB (not sure on the exact #) Then again I haven't really tried to upload anything bigger. But I'm sure the site could handle a .jpg file that is under 2MB.

Photo bucket is blocked by my work system so i cant see them ever... and to be honest i usualy dont look at of site pics they take time to load and you have to look at pics of things that have no relevance to the post... pics that are directly on Pachitalk i can see the thumbnail pic and choose to open only the pics i wana...

    just my 2 cents..

Well when I upload from Photobucket all I get on here is a thumbnail and when it's clicked on it opens up. I can't resize every pic that gets uploaded. All the pics I take are over 2MB. I'd have to lower the resolution to get them smaller and then you start to lose detail.
But it the pics are blocked then you don't see them anyway.
Embedded pics should show up regardless of where they are from since they are put on here locally. This is different that if someone just posts a link.
I'm just going on the basis of what PachiTalk tells me it's doing when it embeds a link. YouTube is differennt in that you can elect to have it not be embedded in the post.

Another reason to not use an external photo hosting site... When I am researching machines on PachiTalk and go back into some old threads, hosted picture links are nearly always dead, but the pics posted directly to PachiTalk are still there and I can view them. I think for "historical" purposes, I would encourage all members to use the PT photo uploader and post the pics directly to the thread.

    That is my opinion too

PachiTalk is a mine of information and it is very sad when searching back to find some fab threads that have valuable information which is no longer as useful due to dead links.

I always encourage members to try and upload their pics directly to PT, wherever possible, so that future members may also benefit from the wealth of information here. (although I do realise that in some instances it isn't always practical)

Thanks but I'm not sure whether there would be any sacrifice in privacy after getting involved in one of those sites. Any experience in that line?

I guess Photobucket and other sites have their issues but all my links are still up years later.
The only privacy I lose on Photobucket is that pretty much anyone can look at what you've posted by typing in your username.
So if you type in SteveCebu on Photobucket everything will come up and you can view it. Of course the same is true of
YouTube unless you have marked it private. If people want to sort through all my crazy posted pics let them as long as they
don't try to sue me for boredom.
I have no personal details posted and everything is G-rated except for my T-rated pics (technical pics) those are much more
boring. i don't see how you would lose any privacy unless you fill out all the details. I just have my age and State where I live.

You can also find pictures via google images. I find peoples photobucket and Flickr pics all the time. It is kinda annoying after a while.
