I think you're on the right track and have some good ideas. The last machine I did I used a self adhesive Birch Veneer on top of the formica surface and I'm really pleased with the results. I just cleared the veneer with no stain. The veneer was a little expensive (I think maybe $30?!) from Rockler Hardwoods in Denver. I still have some veneer left that I may be able to do another machine.

I dont have experience in building cabinets, yet. However there is a whole thread even with plans from various members on this site. Just do a litte searching.

    Again welcome to Pachitalk!!

post some pictures in the Vintage pachinko forum when you get a chance. (we love pictures )

I'd suggest you go with the veneer instead of the laminate. The veneer will be easier to work with and it will also be about half the price. Plus you could stain it any color you want. (Some formicas look really cheap.)

    100 machines and counting...

Thanks. I'm working on the ply and I'll try a stain in a test area under the trim. I'll post some pictures soon. As this is my first unit that I've worked on, I have concerns about putting back the front trim, etc. in exactly the same location. If I cover up the old 'holes' with veneer, then I would have the old holes as guidelines. Let you know
