If you can't beat them, then join them. That's what I ended up doing.

I will try but if I'm just saving $5 then it's not worth the hassle to sit there while the clock counts down.
But saving $20 or more it's sure worth it!

The person who wants it most is always going to win it. I use esnipe mostly because I don't have time (or forget) to watch the auction in the final seconds. I just enter my top bid and hope I get it. I win the auctions about half of the time, and I'm out-bid the other half.

No such thing as a solid bid unless it's the winning bid. Sniping is always debated but since it's eBay's policy to allow it then it's a legitimate method of bidding. If its something you really want or don't want to be up in the wee hours when an auction ends or can't be on a computer then sniping is a huge convenience.Or you can put in your max bet with ebay and watch the price shoot up or curtail some of that and use a free snipe service. That's why I believe snipers are better for buyers in keeping the price down and eliminates emotional bidding. Not so good for a seller who wants to see the bids climb obviously. Interesting topic wherever you stand. I haven't manually bid on eBay in years. One I like to win. And two I don't have to remember placing bids.
To sum up people usually don't like sniping until they do it.

Well I did win a bid recently but I just bid higher. I guess if I use ebay more I'll have to learn more about sniping.
    Thanks

Well if you're bidding on something that doesn't seemingly have much interest or is obscure then chances are you'll be fine. If its something manaorta bidding on then the smart money says you should assume there will be snipes whether done manually or via a snipe service. Do a google search for eBay sniping and you'll find tons of interesting info.

The only way round it is to do what Yahoo auctions do and extend the time by 10 minutes if a bid is placed in the last few seconds. Concidering ebay would make more money out of percent of finaly sale price, I'm surprised they haven't done it, for as their marketing people would say "In the interest of fairness"

    Oh congrats on the sale

Well honestly I'm not used to ebay so I'm still learning.
I'm just going to bid what I feel comfortable with and if I'm overbid so be it.
