Default Taiyo Electron arrived...what a mess.

The golfing themed Taiyo Electron Challenge Ball arrived two days early. I did a quick clean up of the cell and it actually is in nice condition. The vibrating hopper that was added is a big ugly monster of a thing...not even going to wire it up. The original coin tube and solenoid were thrown in and the solenoid works when I tested it. I checked for continuity on everything and everything seems to be ok. The two biggest obstacles I now have are: figuring out how to reconnect the cut wires...I have no idea where they go and I don't want to guess and mess things up further. If anyone has a Taiyo that looks like this from the back I would sell...no give you my first born...if you would take a close up picture of the lower right back of your machine and post it. This might help me in figuring out what wire connects where. Better yet, if you're up to it post a description of what wire connects where. The second obstacle is the missing coin chute. I am going to attempt to make one with some sheet metal. That should be challenging. I'd really like to bring this machine back to life so post, post post pictures and help me out! Wish me luck...I'm gonna need it.

    Good luck to you sir.

I'll be following your thread because I was rather interested in this machine. Plus arrange ball threads don't come around to often.

I'll post updates. Right now I am making a mock up out of poster board material for the coin chute. If it looks like it might work, I''ll get the sheet metal and tin snips out.

IMG_0150.jpgThe mock up for the coin chute appears to be working quite well. Coins are falling into the coin tube!

    Jeff,

The cut wires went to a sensor/trigger that told the machine when a coin was inserted. That sensor would then release the balls into the front of the machine to start play. I took soome pics of mine using my iPhone for you to get you started. I can take some better pics with a real camera in the morning when there is more light, if needed.

that's quite a good looking cel on your machine and congrats again on getting it. jacks' machine looks very close to yours and also LT and AC Mech have Taiyo "Owls" which look very similar too and look to be the same generation based on the same trim pieces and overall design. you have your work cut out for you but with all the help here, in time you'll be able to get that machine close to original. hopefully all the electronics work but even if they don't that's still not a deal breaker.
good luck and keep us informed.

ps-since it's almost a sure bet that your machine's missing lower marquee is identical to the taiyo owl machines, that means an exact replica can be made, clear ball window and all as well as the coin tray.

I do not know if these few pictures I found in my archives will help but it is the best I can do.
