    Default making vintage machines cyclic

I was sitting there in the middle of my third cyclic conversion on a vintage and started wondering if anyone else has done this, would do this, has never even thought of it...

Probably wouldn't...unless reversible. Unless otherwise missing parts, and it was the only way to make it playable. Haven't played one...but seems like it would take some of the "flavor" out of what it was "meant to be". I do like the "paint tray" ball return!

Hmmm I guess if it was the only option. But I'd still like a way of keeping score.

I'm not really a cyclic fan, but with moderns you at least still have videos and fevers and such..with a vintage I'm not sure it would be all that fun, but what do I know I've never played one..

But if I had something nice that couldn't be fixed it would be something I'd consider, but I'd probably want to add something to make getting a ball in a pocket more exciting like lights or scoring..Maybe flashing lights for a regular pocket and lights chasing around the cell for a ball in the center feature..

Some people view more than once but can only vote once

23 people have actually read the thread, so that's not too bad

I wondered if viewing more than once (guilty as charged!) counted, as well as viewing your own post.

Some people feel the need to comment on every post regardless of the usefulness of their response and some only post when they have a question or beneficial info. True here and other forums I belong to. The whole points/ number of posts, etc is of interest to some and not others.Since I'm posting I'd say convert to cyclic if theres no other option as others have mentioned.

I would leave a restorable machine as authentic as possible. I only have one vintage which I restored within the authentic theme.

One of my other hobbies is electronic experimenter. If I had a vintage which simply could not be restored to original, the tulips and everything else would be electronic with LED lighting along with cyclic.

This was a thought I had as well. I think I want to try something like this at some point with one. The two I have that are cyclic have modded backs that have quick releases so If I can ever find backs I can swap out and have fully functioning machines again so I don't want to go all out on them as they are the only ones I have of those brands. The third one I was in the process of converting (Nishigin "B") became a parts machine, it would have been a good choice due to how common they are.

Pluses for modded machines, only need 20 balls to play and there is no catching balls behind the machine. This would make it a good idea for when younger kids are playing. You also don't have to deal with keeping the top hopper full and play being interrupted by the loader blocking balls from the shooter or the machine jamming from being played with the rear tracks empty.

I do agree that cyclic vintages are not as much fun as factory machines but my thought is at least I can play them at all as they would be sitting in the "I don't know what to do with this" pile missing what is missing from them.

There is another thing to consider regarding modifications and that is resell ability. I'd pay more for an original pachinko fixer upper project than someone's heavily modded one.

But like owennewton said, it's better to be able to use it rather than not... or worse it end up in a landfill somewhere.

Iagree it's better to do a mod as a last chance to save a machine and be able to play it than to junk it from lack of parts. After all it is the owners decision.

Can someone post pictures and / or a description of a cyclic vintage? All the balls return to the shooting tray? Or the reward tray is refilled?

I will dig for pics again but all it is is modifying the ball pats to send all the balls back to the top tray.

these were full conversions so there are no payout balls and the jackpot payout systems are not even used. real easy to disable the ball shutoff without damaging anything.
