Its actually read 'Dokan jima' which means island, in place names, rather than the more usual 'shima'. You can see the romaji written out on the plastic in the final photo in that eBay auction. So the name of the machine is Dokan Island in english. The 'dokan' is in katakana, which means its probably a little play on words, like maybe an onomatepaic use for perhaps the guns being loaded or fired (guess), as in a dull thud 'dokan'... but that's purely a guess. I can't translate it properly.

Its a bit beat up and rusted, but fun machine - great theme - Navy ships!

Hope it work OK for you.

$71 was pretty cheap for a hanemono. But, it's all in what you are willing to pay!

    Arrrr! There be pirates!

The machine arrived! After opening it up and getting a good look I became a bit concerned because it was filthy, and was apparently around a salt water environment (from the slight rust over most of the frame metal)
also think it was near a dryer, there seemed to be quite a bit of lint along with numerous dead spiders (according to MrGneiss "Hanemono's don't work without spiders!! ) in that case Im all set
the good news is after a couple of hours wiping it down this is how great it came out

and as a bonus, when I turned the machine around ,there was a volume control attached

so all in all, im very pleased,it has a really great animation involving the cannons "firing" pachinko balls at each other while the two pirates below have it out, will post a video shortly

Its hard to see in the video, but when the two pirates move toward each other, three clear "bridges " form (one in the middle, and one in front of each cannon)then, as the balls enter the yaku they're trapped behind a plexi barrier and held in the cannon area to be bounced around
near the end of the round, the pirates go back to position while the bridges open and release,(there is also a little bump in the center that keeps the ball from rolling directly down the middle to the "V" pocket making this machine quite challenging

Great find! Glad you got it. I can see why you like the early moderns. I'm still partial to vintages...but I keep an eye out for bargains in any class!

Very cool. That machine has very smooth action unlike mine, or others I've seen. Also, I don't find the music as irritating as others. Nice find!
