Default Aristocrat "Smelly Cat" tokenless with HC error

I'm new here and a newbe to Pachislo. I got this at an antique shop in California, so it is tokenless Free Play and the token slot is sealed with plastic. There's no hopper or coin/token ramp.

During the full reset process the following happens:
    1) Pwr switch on (with key clockwise):
    The outside-right LED says "2".
The inside door LED shows 1 to 6 depending on last odds setting.

    2) Pressing down play handle:
The outside-right LED changes to "0"

    3) Turn key counter-clockwise:
    Music starts
    Lots of door lights
    Outside-right LED changes to "HC"
NONE of the outside buttons do anything, wheels don't spin.

I read somewhere here that HC stands for Hopper Count Error, so I suspect it's a failed conversion. It's been imported by TDC Games, and there is a phone number, but I'm not expecting much help from them.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm a retired EE so I'm not afraid of electrons. I'll post photos if needed.

Welcome to pachitalk. With no hopper or coin slot, the machine has been altered somewhere in the credit counter display. Without the credits showing,up to 50 max the game won't play.See if you can trace the wires back from the credit display and see where they go. It may have an autostop board installed, and by pressingthe stop buttons and holding them a few seconds it may show credits.I am not sure of the steps for an autostop but by pressing different ones the machine will do various actions. Look into the research center in the forum and see if there is info about autostops for pachislo's. Ihope this helps a little to your questions.

Hi yose, thanks for your help. I've never seen this machine in operation, so is the credit counter display the one on the left? It's always "0".

I'll grab my tool box and start poking around.

    Welcome to PachiTalk ! ! !

Below are two Pic's. One of your Stop Board connected normally and one with one of my AutoSlots installed. If an AutoSlot is installed, pressing and holding the right stop button for 3 to 4 seconds will add 53 credits to the Pachi. The other Vendor in the U.S. only produces reel stop only Auto Stops. If you do not see my device installed then a Mod may have been done in Japan prior to your Pachi ariving at our Shores.

    Other PS switch.jpgSmelly Cat.jpg

I found it!! It was another "on-off" switch on the power supply to the left of the main switch. Sort of recessed and I didn't see. It was on, so I turned it off. Now it works.

Now I just have to find a dual L-Pad w/ a switch so I can listen in stereo. Thanks for this site. Lots of great information here.

See if you can show pics of the machine, and the displays as well as the inside of the machine. This is always helpful.Usually the credit display will show 0 when no credits counted. it takes 3 credits to play each spin of the reels.

Iam glad to see it's working.I am curious as to how it pays out winnings, just does it add credits, and how will it payout a bonus. Keep us informed I have never seen this kind of mod before with no hopper or tokens. Thanks.

I'm completely new to this, so it'll be awhile before I understand the play well enough to comment. Right now we're just enjoying the funny noises and flashing lights.

I seem to be able to nail the first two reels pretty good, but the last one is always one off.

The reels are set to what is called a 1-4 slip in the movement they slip 1 to 4 images until a chance mode hits in the game, then you can hit the third reel in the timing of chance. That's what makes them fun.

That pachi looks a lot like mine in many ways. Is it made by Sammy?
