Do you have only the one machine?

In the long run it's easier and cheaper to use tokens. Just my two tokens worth!

Not to mention with the money you'd use to fill the machine $125 to $250 you could get another machine!

I use it as a piggy bank. I do not spend and quarters. My first machine is converted, has a bandit arm, and super auto stop. I will only put an auto stop on the 2nd one.

at first i used quarters because it sorta made it more American casino type then i got a 2nd machine and wanted everything to be more authentic as it was in japan and after you have a 2nd machine you would have to have 500 in quarters just to have enough to play both machines.

Most states that allow these machines do so because they do NOT accept quarters. converting them to do so would be a crime. in many of these states the crime would be classified as a felony!!!!
I ,for one, find this discussion ill advised and mabye even dangerous for the continued existence of this site.afterall if one of their residents are convicted of this crime and it is proven that the info was acquired here... the adminstrators of this site could be found legally liable.
oh ya!! has anyone heard of self-incrimination?? think about that next time you yap about converting your machine!! in a public forum

As far as I'm aware you might still get the blue prints from the Library of congress to build a nuclear bomb. It's getting the plutonium that's difficult. Now with that being said, as far as I'm aware, information is not illegal. After all this isn't exactly a state secret.

For the most part, the tokens have the same feel (and weight) as quarters. After a while you won't even notice that you're using tokens and not quarters.

Well not to worry. If they come after anyone it would be David and myself. I'm sure David would fall on his sword for all of us! :rambo:

I don't know what is legal or what is not. But, I do know I enjoy these machines the was they came. I think it is a conversation piece to have all those different tokens. It is cool looking at all the different ones with their designs.

I know exactly what you mean. Thats what I am wanting to do. Is have it as a piggy bank and fix it where I have to go through a lot of trouble to get the cash. With me its out of my hand, out of my mind. My grandfather runs an amusement company and has a bunch of old bill changers. He is gonna let me have one and instead of the changer spitting out quarters it will spit out tokens. ( thats if the tokens are close enough to the quarter size. that way I can save money in the process. I know, it all sounds stupid, but I have tried this with my pinball machine and have gramps come once a month and oooooo la la, all that money I spent playing my own machine..... But now if friends come over to play pachi, I will be giving them a bucket of tokens.... I know I will have to buy lots of tokens, but I would rather pay 5-7 cents per token rather than paying 25 cents for a quarter..... just my two tokens worth!!!! ( which I don't have yet) :burnout:

Hey, I just bought a Neo Magic Pulsar machine and it is pretty badass. Obviously I immediately thought I had to change it to quarters, but after reading everything on the site I am questioning my initial decision. One of the core arguments I keep reading over and over is the cost of quarters vs. tokens... what about converting the machine to nickels? Is this a fairly easy mod? The money works out the same way and it is fun to play with real money (even if it is a very small amount). My friend's dad has an antique nickel machine at his house and every time I go over there I bring a few nickels (and lose them all), but it is really fun. Seeing as every game would cost $.75 with quarters is waaay too steep, so that is out of the question... so I guess what I am asking is:
    1. is there an easy nickel mod for a magic pulsar
    2. should I wait it out and not convert anything
    3. is there a mod to have 1 quarter = 1 play instead of 3 tokens/quarters a play

thanks, these boards are very useful for a first timer

But doesn't that take the fun out of playing? Everytime you hit a BB you would have to keep filling the hopper unless you had 350-500 quarters already in it. A piggy bank is for saving money(buy one for a few bucks) and pachi's are for playing!
    and a few others.

A friend of ours changed a Pachislo to accept quarters and then sold it. It wasn't even a week that he was out searching for a new hopper for his customer. I guess there is more to consider when you convert. Apparently the hoppers are not made for quarters...duh!...

Ya know, when I was young & sorta, well... young, I had wild ideas about how to save money.
Now, I have an ING Direct high yeild savings account, a 401k & some mutual funds that I just stuff with about 40% of everything I make.
I get a much better return than I ever would putting quarters into a FRIGGIN' SLOT MACHINE!
    Just my dividends worth...
