    Default Greetings from Connecticut

OK so I broke etiquette by posting a couple of posts before posting here. So here's my story... A few months ago my cousin gave my dad a pachinko machine to fix. He asked if I could find some info on it for him, which I provided. Eventually I saw it and was enthralled by both the simplicity of the mechanics and complexity of the unit as a whole. (That unit we determined was from 1983 (Sankyo - Space Shuttle). I kept looking up info on cleaning and repairing them and finally decided I should get one for myself.

So in a month I now have 3 of them and am done for a while. I wanted one of each approximate decade, since it is interesting to see the evolution of the machine. I have (in the order purchased):

    Nishijin "Frog" Model-B

    KYORAKU "Jelly-Fish" single Shot
    th_DSC09273.jpg th_DSC09277.jpg th_DSC09286.jpg

    Nishijin "Success Story" Classic-Modern
    th_DSC09296.jpg th_DSC09299.jpg

The Frog is in OK shape and plays.
The Jelly-Fish just came today, but it is beat to heck. There will be a lot of work to do to get it cleaned and working. I also am in need of a picture of what the pockets should look like on this. If you look close all the bottom pockets are void of any decoration.
The Success Story needs a cleaning also, however I cannot seem to open the game from the frame, the release mechanism does not slide at all, and I can't tell yet what is holding it. It is not the key latch, since I loosened that.

I will need one more eventually, a modern, but that will wait until these are all set.

I knew you liked pictures, so I spent 45 minutes attempting to load them up. Apparently the Forum does not like FireFox for uploading (IE worked fine). It will be a while before I get to repairing them.

there is a few machine's that the latch is strange on... its weird and hard to describe.. its loose and flips forward and back a bit right??? try push down and forward on the lever.. (puching twards the front of the machine) they can be stiff.. took me a few tryes to get that style open...

I have never seen a machine that a key was required to open the glass...

Welcome to the insanity we call a hobby! You have a very nice collection in the works, and I can't wait to see what other machines you add to it in the near future.

Regarding your KYORAKU "Jelly-Fish" single Shot, the bottom pockets look normal to me for a 1950's era machine. The earlier machines did not have as much decoration, features or "flair" as the 1970's machines did, and tulips were essentially non-existent back then. I have quite a few machines from this era in my collection and none of them have anything fancy for the bottom pockets.

Again, welcome to PachiTalk! We hope you visit us daily and post often!

There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

Looks like your off and running with the "hobby" (more like a Disease). It grows rather quickly. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

    100 machines and counting...

Thanks. I got the glass open on the SuccessStory. It is just the game from the frame, which I will need to do to get the rest of the game apart. There are 4 levers one the game that open out towards the frame and the frame is in the way of fully disengaging them. After I look at it closer I'll post a note over on the modern forum. Thanks to all for the warm wishes. This is quite a friendly and helpful forum.
