    Talking Minnesota Newbie

    Hello All!!

Just picked up an old Nishijin Sophia Super Deluxe at an antique store this past weekend. Never had known what these were before. Had seen them, just never knew what they were.

Well, I plinked it a few times to see if it worked. And sure enough, IT WORKED!! I asked the gal how much and she said $33. I told her, SOLD!!

It's quite dusty and has some chrome issues. But overall it's not bad. The plexiglass is cracked (no big surprise there). But it appears everything is intact. I am in the process of cleaning it up and making sure everything is working. The background has a slight bit of discoloration from water, but not too bad.

I will post pics when I get home later tonight.

Any others around the Twin Cities area here in MN?

    Erik

Welcome to the Hobby! As you have probably read here already, these things get REALLY lonely and need friends of the same vintage, so they tend to multiply really quickly.

Please post pics as soon as you can, as we really like to look at pics of Pachinkos. Come back daily to visit us and post often.

Sounds like you got a fairly good deal for your first machine. Please post some pictures we just love to look at them. Also if you have any question please feel free to ask because here there really is no dumb question.

    And once again welcome.

I'm thinking it must be a "Shooting Star" kind of theme to this one.

Cars have always been in my life. The past 12 years have been taken up by stage rally, rallycross and SCCA. I'm taking a step back from that this year since we had our first baby in December of last year. I miss it a bit, but she makes it so worth taking the time off.

    Thanks guys and gals!

I finally got the front off of the machine and found the 49A-51 code on it. Looks like it's the 1974 Shooting Star edition. I can't find anymore info than that. So far in my research I've only seen a few with the half moon light in the top left corner. Most of the ones I see close to this one have the square blocks for the light.

It might be a while before I get to getting this thing completely refurbished. I have so many projects right now. We just bought a house and emptied out 2 storage units, so I have to sift through all the junk we have and get rid of things. Then it's on to getting things done to the house. Finish the walls in the basement and put in 2 doors down there, put a screendoor in between the garage and the house, refinish the piano bench seat, try to gut the MR2 and put a roll cage into it for next season for ChumpCar racing, etc... The list just never ends. And of course that's just my list. Haven't mentioned the wifes list for me yet...

Oh well, we are planning on setting up our basement into a game/entertainment room and want to incorporate some interesting games that you don't usually see. We might get a pool table and a air hockey table, but we want some other off-the-wall type games to put in there also. Thus my interest in the Pachinko game. If anyone has any other ideas for small gaming items to put in down there, please post them up. I also want to try and find and old slot machine too.
