got this much done for today, also have about 60% of the rear/interior components installed and a few more parts to attach on the playfield as well as all the trim pieces.
took awhile to get the funky green color for the coin and key strip just right but it came out very nice.

here's the latest work completed and where it will remain for awhile due to travel. still a few more parts for the front and some parts are yet to be attached to the interior as well as soldering a few components.
the textured or grainy apperance that is part of the look of the original cel is hard to see in the pics but is still there. that's due in part to a cell phone pic but also due to how the print turned out but apparent in person as well as the pinkish purple stars scattered throughout the background.

finally had a chance to pull it out of the storage unit while waiting to move everything out and into the basement. unpacked the machine and all the parts, most of which were the rear components. installed them and soldered all the connections, and powered it up. tested all the functions and it's all working properly. as far as cosmetic issues are concerned, i had everything pretty much done and the main thing for me to do was to make and apply the numbers on the tulips, and the score doubler light sticker in the very upper left of the play field. it's more visible in the pic with the flash. last thing to do and what i've neglected to do on several of my other taiyo's is to reproduce the number matrix graphic. the ink/paint on it is missing in a few areas. just need to figure out which technique to use.
the large, plastic number cover over the lower pockets is packed away and i have no idea where so it's missing in these less than sharp phone pics. last pic is of the machine as it arrived from japan.

here's a youtube vid of the 99% completed machine. i manage to get one 7 on the LED readout during a game so the action of the tulips and spinners can be seen. the micro switch that detects an incoming coin doesn't register reliably because the metal arm coming off of it that a coin slides over is too long and tends to deflect the coin. i just have to cut it with some pliers. other than a couple more cosmetic finishing touches, it's done and ready to join the collection.
