I don't know about others BUT I JUST got power and STILL no Internet/phone/TV

I realize that Irene was not as bad as they say it was going to be BUT,
I just got power back from Saturday and do not have any TV/phone/net.
I had to get way getting a generator which I did because even though the generator was NOT cheap
it saved about the same in food... I hate having to use work internet though...

Irene affected a lot of people, they are saying home insurance will be going up all over the country to cover losses on the east coast

Glad you got your power back on. After H. Ike it took 5 days for us, but we were staying cool up in Dallas until we knew power was restored. Some of our friends were in an area of Houston that didn't have power for 6 weeks!I hope insurance doesn't go up. We already have extremely high costs due to wind storm (aka hurricane) coverage.

I hear you on that one. My feeling on Hurricane prone areas is ALL houses need to be made out of Greenblock or a similar method. Its a polystirene lrgo block product with concrete poured into it. It can EASILY handle 200mph winds...
and it should be required... I just hated to go out an buy that generator that was $850 PLUS the warrentee that could be better spent... At least it is a year interest free from Sears...

I ALSO know I got off lucky with no power for 3 days too and 4-5 days HOPEFULLY For the Verizon Fios... No having internet is a REAL pain...

hear in Cali we refer to that kind of construction as I.C.F. Inslulated Concrete Forms.. great duaability.. excelant inslulation value.. if an ICF house is built right the windows actuly have holes (vents) in them to allow the house to breath

I should have called it that but I have been calling it by its trade name for awhile so I tend to forget. As a construction engineer I have not seen a finer product to build a home with!
Let's see R-30 wall insulation and it handles 200 mph winds... NOTHING else like it...

I'm not that far from you and my power barely flickered a few times and I have some small tree debris in my yard. I was at the supermarket when the tornado warnings went through... just going from the store to the parking lot (just after handicapped parking), my groceries and I were totally soaked... as if I had jumped into a swimming pool holding the bags.

It is really bothering me that some people are complaining about this being over-hyped... If this storm did not affect someone, then great, it means it missed you... but that doesn't mean it missed everyone. My family was lucky... but there are a lot of people out there suffering from great loss. I just don't get it.
