    Default Big Bear Airshow

Spent a wonderful day at the airshow today.

Saw lots of cool planes, nice cars, and lots of people

My neighbor would have loved that, he was over in the Pacific during the war, repair and maintenance in the Air Force (one of the few in his outfit that could weld those exhaust stacks ). Among the first into Japan afterwards clearing airfields so they'd be ready for us. Said they were littered with damaged planes. Just turned 87 a couple days ago.

    One interesting story -

They didn't have the time to repair every plane, so they were just pushed to the edge of the airfield. A kamikaze pilot flew his plane into them. He said they had a good laugh about that, this pilot thinking he was doing a great thing and just crashing into the junk planes.
