Thundershirt for dogs

I bought one of these for 1 of my 3 dogs (he is the biggest out of the 3).
He is terrified of anything that goes boom, he starts panting, shaking and tries to crawl on top of us to hold him until it is over.
This past 4th of July, he sat in the bathroom all night long and cowered from the fireworks and every thunderstorm we have he comes unglued.
It came in the mail yesterday and it looks like we will get a chance to try it out tonight as we are expecting severe storms.

Well we have not had any boomers here yet.
But I was just outside having a smoke and I could hear thunder in the distance, so the Thundershirt still might get the test tonight
He has been wearing it most of the night and really does not seem to mind having it on.

The storms the other night fizzled out, so we did not get to see how it works.
The next chance for storms here is Sunday

Our aging beagle is starting to show increasing signs of separation anxiety, so I showed this thread to my wife who is always skeptical about such things. She watched the videos, read the reviews on Amazon and instantly bought one.

Ok folks...
We had a popup thunderstorm this afternoon and I give the Thundershirt a thumbs up
Not a complete success but I would say about a 75% success for the first time wearing it.
I was laying down and my wife was out and she called me and told me to hurry up and it put the shirt on Zeus.
About 10 minutes later it started and he went into the bedroom and layed on the bed.
There was no uncontrollable panting or shaking like he normally does but he still wanted to sit on my lap, and he did not cower every time there was rumble of thunder.
I am really happy that it helps him because I can't stand to see him in a panic like that.

I would call that a success, it may not remove all the symptoms but he may get even better as he has more experience with storms having the thing on

That sounds like a good thing to have around my house.

We have one dog that is terrified of thunder, gun shots, etc.

I think this is something I'd like to try out.

We just had another big storm roll through here and this thing really works as advertised.
He is still very aware of the storm but he is not reduced to a terrified, shaking mess anymore and he will even take a treat during the storm, something he would never do before.
It is the best $36 I have ever spent

Thanks for the update! I'm glad it is helping your dog weather the storms (pun intended ) Our ThunderShirt arrived last week and we have used it twice to help with "Buddy's" occasional separation anxiety episodes. So far is seems to be doing what it is advertised to do, however it will take several weeks before we can confirm it is working since he doesn't consistently display separation anxiety. I will keep you all posted.

For us, the Thunder Shirt works about 80% of the time to help Buddy with his anxiety. We still notice there are times when he is very worked up and "worried," and the shirt does not calm him much, but when you consider the low cost of the product and the percentage of times it does work, we are happy with it.

wow i just read about the thunder shirt. I need to get one for my Buster. He is terrified of thunderstormas and fireworks. this sounds much better then drugging him. Thankyou for the info.

Now they just need to make some doggie earplugs for when the ice cream truck comes around the neighborhood. Drives my dog crazy.

samson can't hear good anymore, some days he doesn't even know when i come home


his eyesight is off a little too, its h#ll to get old, he will be 12 in november
