So are you planning to put the nails back in or are you going to add some glue and replace them with screws?
100 machines and counting...

Actually, this picture is about 4 months old. That machines has already been completely restored. I decided not to use nails, instead I used some 1/4" dowel rods as pins, and then cleaned it up with some wood-filler. It worked out well, although in the custom case I used for it the effort was pretty much wasted because it cannot be seen.
