    Default 1966 Nishijin

This is what I love about the 1960's machines. The backgrounds were truly works of art. Here is a 1966 Nishijin awaiting the new front frame I am having reproduced from scratch. Interesting feature: The tulip is triple action. First ball opens the red side, second ball closes the red side and opens the green side, the third ball closes both. Background replaced and everything cleaned and polished.

I hope it does not collect too much dust before I get the new frame!SS.jpg

Very nice and my kind of graphics. First time I've ever seen that type of tulip.

I got a machine with one of those tulips. Actually I think I got two of them. They are kinda cool the first time I went to make it work I thought it was broken

Neat background James I saw it on your site and I was wondering what it was going on. Well I guess now I know. Looks great. What do you mean your waiting for the new frame?

When I went through my standard process of dissasembly on this machine the front frame (Made of 3/4" plywood) started disintegrating and the ply's split and broke into a hundred different pieces. Way too much dry-rot. It was unrestorable at that point. So I found a local artisan who cound build me a new front frame following the specs of the original splinters. He is making it from scratch from 3/4" birch plywood to the original specs. I know it sounds ridiculous and extreme, but I take restoration seriously. There is no limit to how much I will spend to restore a machine to like new condition. That is the discipline. Once I decide that a machine will be restored as opposed to becoming a parts machine cost no longer becomes an issue. All in or all out I guess.

Probably not the best business model, but its all about standards. I am almost psycho about perfection.

If you ever need a front for a model A I have two of them that are in fairly decent shape. They are both cleared so they don't have the formica on them.
