    Default hello all...Ginza progress report!

Hello all! It's been a while, but I joined for some assistance with the vintage Ginza "Kujaku" machine I acquired...Things got pretty busy for a while, but I got it up and working properly, and built a cabinet for it...It's still not completely finished. I found out that "Kujaku" is Japanese for "Peacock" or "Peafowl", which explains the odd design of the cell and center feature. The cabinet is built out of an old kidney shaped vanity I picked up at a junk shop for $5, and the framing for the machine is door casing from an old house I remodeled for someone. I painted the cabinet to reflect the colors of the cell, added lighting, and tied in a small effects processor to the jackpot light circuit to flash the lights and play music when a jackpot is hit. Spent balls fall down into the drawer underneath.I'm still waiting for the colored fluorescent tube covers for the pilaster lights, and the vinyl "Kujaku" lettering for the top marquee to get here...I also think I'm going to change the legs to thicker square or tapered ones, as it looks kind of top heavy to me, although it actually isn't. Everything I have done electrically is easily reversible,as I didn't want to hurt the machine. Tell me what you think, good or bad. Thanks!
    Andy

More pics... I still have to tighten up the wiring, too...I just built the pilaster lights, so they are only tied in temporarily. I am running 12v for my low voltage, using the internals from a 12v 2a trickle charger...

    That looks good.

I think it really does need some thicker legs and square would probaly be best.

I like the vanity cabinet it looks great though it made it kinda hard to see the machine with out those covers on the lights. (but you said you'll fix that eventually so it won't be an issue)

Great cheap idea for a cabinet I'll have to keep it in mind next time I go to the goodwill.

Please post some pictures once you have the whole thing done.

Thanks! The pilaster lights will have green wraps on them...that'll soften them up. The vanity is probably from the 50's. it would have had a lacy "skirt" around the perimeter. The 2 red designs at the bottom of the upper portion are pieces that attached to the underside of the front, that the skirt would have been attached to.. They would swing out when it was being used to access the drawer, and swing closed to hide the drawer when not in use.

I have the two drawer version of that vanity! It is from the late 40's and my family has had it for over 50 years. I may have just found a use for it and it could hold 2 machines.

can you post a picture of it owen? Well only if it is at an easy point to take. I don't want you to go digging around for it just to post a picture.

100_2220.jpg I guess it can only hold one machine, I was thinking it was a little wider. I am upset the glass top was broken during one of the moves but it still works as a table (or a space taker in the garage as it is right now)

Its only wide enough for one machine

In the pictures it looks to be wider than that. Oh well you can put one machine on it and use the rest as counter space for your

It is 30" tall, 35" wide at the center of the curve, 16" deep in the center and 19" deep at the kidney curve

I guess 2 machenes could fit if they were in a "V" shape on it, I will need to think about that

Nice idea with the lighting, and a very unique stand. I agree it does need thicker legs, but as a hole very nice indeed

It might look cool. Making the cabinet for that would be a little bit of a challenge though. But I'm sure you can do it.

Thanks for all your input...I'm really pretty proud of the way it's turning out. I received the fluor. covers, found some more substantial legs, now if the marquee decal would get here...I have seen lots of various styles of cabinets here and elsewhere, from pretty intricate floor standers to simpler tabletops and wall hangers. I guess I'm trying to give mine a more "arcade" feel, with the bright colors and lighting, while trying to retain a Japanese feel...It's been difficult trying to maintain that, as the game itself has a more "mod" late 60's or early 70's style to it,as opposed to a "classic" Japanese design, with a pretty difficult subject...If it was a "crab", "dolphin" or the like, it may have been easier to design, I think..The "peacock" has proved difficult..

I'm curious about your sound effects generator. Mind posting the curcuit/chip and an audio clip?
