When we inherited a home couple years ago. We also inherited everything in it. I'm a total Mid-Century Modern Freak and there were a few great furniture pieces from the 50's and early 60's. The dining room set is outstanding!

Anyway we ended up with one of those classic stereo Console Systems that were popular back in the 60's. Most of the ones you see anymore are from the late 60's or early 70's and are way too gaudy for me.

However, this one is cool. Its made of fine walnut stained dark. Super clean lines. It was bought from Montgomery Wards in 1962. Still have the manuals and everything. It was high end for the time because it also has a reel to reel tape player and of course AM and FM radio. The turntable is a Gerard and in outstanding condition.

We love this thing. My wife and have all our albums from our teens and break them out every once and awhile. One of my favorites is to play Patsy Cline on it. It just takes you right back to 1962 to when you play it.

Oh and I have her collection of about 200 albums too. Mostly big band era stuff but some of these albums look like they were played once. I just look at the collection and shake my head and walk away. Just not sure what to do with them yet.

When my mother-in-law passed two years ago, we inherited her prized 1898 wind up Thomas Edison (Edison & Company) phonograph, which is the kind that plays the hardend wax cylinder recordings, not the round platters. The player works flawlessly and we have about 13-15 "records" or cylinders to play on it.

My next door neighbor is an active phonograph collector and restorer, and he not only has a houseful of antique record players on display, but he also has the original advertisements for most that he found in old National Geographic magazines. He has the ad framed and placed above each player in his home, and all of his players work. If I had to guess, there are probably 60-80 players in there and many are rare. He also has a really old jukebox (one of the first built), but I am not sure of the year it was made. He also has thousands and thousands of old phonograph records, needles, and other items that would make any collector drool. He is divorced with grown kids and lives in a large four bedroom home alone, so he was able to fill all of the rooms in his home with his collection. It's really quite a site to see.

There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."
