A difficult one. Behond my knowledge. Sorry.

Start tracing the circuit path from the plug backwards. I'm no expert of circuits but you would expect it would go from the plug to an amplier, then to an IC with the sounds stored on it, and probably another IC telling it what sounds to make when
When you drop a ball into any of the pockets are you getting 7 balls paid out?

Is there a volume switch your not seeing, that might be switched off.

To answer the last two - The machine pays out what I believe to be correct, 7 for the bottom three numbered pockets (and opening the middle) and 13 for all the other pockets and balls in the middle and v pocket. So I'm looking for an amplifier, I'm not sure what that is going to look like.

There is a volume switch but I have tried to bypass it and go directly to the speaker and gotten nothing, have also tried dropping balls in with it in each setting (it's a three way switch). I've also tried bypassing the switch and hooking up another speaker right off the pins on the board. I don't see any other switches anywhere, though I posted pics of the PCB previously perhaps something on there is a switch and I am unaware?

In the first photos the third one down shows a little circuit board by the speaker, where the red wire is connected, from the speaker. It could be a bad resistor on the other side of the board. you could try bypassing the circuit. it is probably hooked to the volume switch. one resitor is for high volume, two resistors is for low volume ,depending on the way the switch is set. Just a thought to try to help.

Have tried just this, and with a fresh speaker to no results, that is what lead me to believe it was the circuit board. I will re-test it again though, because at this point I'll try anything.

Is there a blown fuse somewhere maybe by the amp.

I don't know how the board layout. But the amp will either be built onto that board or be a seperate board altogether. But a basic amp can consist of 3 or 4 capacitors and an IC chip, Those in the know will tell you what is what
I know it sucks. But it might be worth just unplugging and plugging every plug back in. Not just on this board but any other ones too

I had a 7 channel suround amp die on me and it took a 10 power eye piece and the thing powered on to find 2 micro resisters arking to a fried transister, never did fix it as I can't find the values bit at least I know why it is dead

Maybe it's a bad wire, Sometimes the wires get brittle and break . maybe try useing new wire to test the speaker.

Next chance I get I'll try unplugging everything. It's not a bad wire to the speaker as I tested another speaker directly off the pins on the pcb.

Maybe it's a loose connection to the amp itself

How would I go about testing that? sounds tough.

You would have to find the circiut board that has the amp on it and trace the wires back to the power source reverse enginering.

Well, it has to be on the main one (up close pics on the first page - Sankyo Jazz Men - No Sound) because that's the only circuit board on the machine. In the 4th close up, is that the amp with the screw on it?

Yes that looks like the amp with the heat sink on it. Without proper equipment I don't know how to check the circuits or the board for cracks or bad components. The problem has to start from there. power to the amp ,power out of the amp . The wire terminal on the amp the volume switch , the wires going to the speaker, the speaker. the connections at the speaker. Or the ball sensors that activate the sound, maybe they are not working.check all those terminals.

Thanks for all the help, will do this as soon as I get a chance, my other thought has been, that maybe it's improperly grounded? I disassembled the whole machine before I turned it on for the first time to clean it and I'm wondering if maybe I messed the ground up somehow...

Maybe you missed a connection when you reassembled it,carefully take it apart and check each connection, and I'll bet you find the problem you missed before. good luck

    Finally some progress...maybe.

I got some static out of the test speaker when I touched the wires directly to the pins coming out of the amplifier. No distinguishable noise (even when the machine was supposed to be making it) but the connection is shaky at best. Does this tell me anything about the amplifier? I feel like now I should be looking along the traces that go from the amp to the speaker pins - does this make sense?

Yes that could be a bad connection to the output terminal, check for loose solder on the circiut board, or a loose pin. Iwould say it is somewhere around that area.

Okay I know this is an old post, but I have a Sankyo Fever (just like the one here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3pzrjciiuw). I am having the EXACT SAME problem with the sound. My speaker, switch, and PCB board looks very similiar to the one in this thread so I was hoping someone could help me out.

I was wondering if the OP ever figured out the issue? I tried just about everything that he did and I am at a lost. If the OP was able to fix his issue and would not mind sharing the solution, then I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance for any help
