And as an update, the machine still works great. I have to give a big thanks to the group here for all resources on the site; as well as the walkthroughs on how to get the machine running. It's got sentimental value to me for many reasons, and watching it operate for the first time since I was a kid brought tears to my eyes. My 2y/o son loves playing with it too. What's a side tross?

It is a term given to machines that have pockets on the sides of the playfield like yours. (the white ones with the orange claws.)
