    Default Completed first playfield replacement

Heres the picture, I am still cleaning / fixing / polishing / painting / assembling the rear mechanisms, but the playfield itself is finally complete.

It was a ton of work, but I am quite pleased with the result.

I am quite envious! I have restored many vintage machines, but have not yet tried a cell replacement. I will be doing one soon, though. Your picture and this thread has encouraged me.

    Looks EXCELLENT!

    looks great

where did you get the new cell from, also how much did the total replacement cost if you don't mind me asking.

Because i'm thinking about doing it to 3 of my machines.

    100 machines and counting...

Very nice job and it looks like a new machine. Best part is the satisfaction that comes with a full tear down and rebuild.

I used the pdf in the sticky by cardwwi for the basic instructions. I am not that talented at graphics processing programs so creating the .jpg from the original background to send to the printing company was extrememly difficult for me. I eventually had to get a friend who does graphics for a living to make it look perfect. Getting just one printed as a vinyl sticker with glossy UV-resistant laminate and adhesive background turned out to be pretty expensive, but I managed to get a deal per background by ordering a bunch of them. I am selling the rest on ebay for a little over my cost.

I cannot understate the amount of work involved in changing these backgrounds though. If someone ever wanted to hire me to change one I would have to charge them somewhere in the neighborhood of $500.00 + just for the time alone. But it really jumps at you with that screaming bone white glossy background compared to several others I have that are faded as typical with their age. The total cost to me was the sticker, a few sandpaper pads for my palm sander, a handful of stainless screws, 4 paint pens, a 1/4 bottle of maguires plastic polish, some new cotter pins for the rails, and probably 30-40 hours of work over a one month period.

That looks excellent. My 1st restoration just started with a ball tray for my machine. The pachi in that picture looks so crisp, to get close to that appearance would be awesome.

That's a beautiful job, I think you picked a really nice interesting cell to restore and it certainly is a stunner
