Latest addition -Daiichi with side pockets

Just came today with the most packing material I've ever seen! It's a Daiichi New Vanguard with a tulip flower theme cell in incredible shape. I'm reading the expiration sticker correctly, it's a 1972 model. It has two pockets that can catch a ball from the top or the side. The center feature displays a mountain or volcano...I'm not sure which...with the word "PIONEER". Above the mountain/volcano is a small white teeter totter that seems to channel a ball to one side of the center feature or the other. But I haven't figured out how a ball enters to hit the teeter totter. When a ball goes into the rectangular pocket above the center feature, it opens the tulip below the center feature. Now this tulip is rather strange...it has a question mark with a number "1" and the words "REAR HIT". When a ball enters this tulip, it opens the tulip below...so...#1-I'm not sure how a ball enters to hit the teeter totter...and #2- I'm not sure what the heck "REAR HIT" is. Maybe someone out there has a similar machine that can enlighten me.

not sure what the rear hit is??? i had a machine that was a 2 hit tulip.. it would stay open for 2 balls then close on the 3rd the 4th would open it and stay open for the 5th and 6th.. etc etc..
