Default Comet II - Bent wires or what? Can force first payout but won't reset

    Hi All,
I need lots of help these days it seems.

Picked up a vintage Comet II and have started to clean it up.

It works for the first payout but doesn't reset, I have to manually push up a thing that looks like a paper clip.

There is a white plastic lever that doesn't seem to be hooked up to much, should it be?

Tried to show in pictures what it looks like after paying out one jackpot.

Looked at a ton of threads but am reaching out to the experts...

    Thanks...

the paper clip piec is there to slow the jackpot cycle down...

    your stuck in mid cycle...

as the ball falls to the paper clip the balls are droped from the jackpot... the fall of thouse balls should hit a flap that lifts the paperclip wire... if that flap is not moving freely it will not reset.. (of couse your seeing the end result)

you going to have to open her up and find the point that is draging and causing friction not allowing it to raise..

the action of the balls falling from the jackpot also raises the jackpot seesaw... reseting the whole system for the next winning ball...

take a look at the point where the jackpot balls fall (or slightly to the left of where the balls fall)... that should be where your problem is at..

    hope that helps

Took it apart, can't find anything that looks like it is in the path of the jackpot ball; other than the long lever (that the jackpot ball is resting on...) I can take another picture? Or maybe you can try one more time with me, thanks for your patience...

That long lever seems to move smoothly. I have to lift up a plastic hook thing, near the bell, and lift up the emptry tray plastic pieces to move it freely without the balls in there.

There is a single wire that looks like it hits the bell, it is just kind of dangling there, the bell does ring during a jackpot.

There is a white piece with two screws holding a bent wire to the left of the paperclip, it looks wrong and does not seem to be hooked up to anything.

I had the same problem with my model A. It was caused by the jackpot balls not triggering the reset process.
As moparformance says. Track the jackpot balls as they come out of the seasaw and make sure anything they hit or roll over is free to move.

Post a few pics from around that paper clip thingy (above, below, etc). I suspect there is a piece that may be missing, or bent out of place. I have run into this issue before...

that wire that is hanging there should be hooked on to the back side of the white lever to the left of it..i took mine off and tried it,but the payout still worked.you might have some other problem,if you post more pics,we can help you.

First of all - THANKS for all the answers !!!

I noticed a few empty slots and screw holes now and suspect missing parts, not sure there is anyone out there selling the missing pieces... think I might have to find one similar and scavenge...

    Thanks, again...

can you post a close up picture of the area above where the "paperclip" wire is...

there is a pivot point between the jackpot and the paper clip.. is there something missing there??

a close up of this area

    Problem identified!

See the attached pic - the metal pin that I circled needs to be pointing straight up into the plastic housing (you will see a small hole for it to go through). When the jackpot payout is released, the weight of the balls pushes down the white plastic lever inside, which should push down the metal pin when it is in the proper position. That, in turn, lifts the paper clip like wire to release the jackpot ball, thus completing the payout cycle and resetting the machine.
