    Default balls shoot off track

    Hey all,
    Just found this site. yahoo!
I've recently acquired a '60s Nisijiin A single shot (sea shell model) When you shoot the ball, you have to be real careful to not pull back very hard or the ball flies off the track, hits the glass and goes crazy. If you just pull back enough to have the ball go up to the top, and then fall down into the pins, everything is fine.
I am assuming that you should be able to pull back harder if you want to!
SO, what's out of adjustment here? DO I need to mess with the ball guiding strip of metal that makes the big circle? or what?
thanks for any and all help

    Welcome to Pachitalk!!

It sounds to me like the glass may be inserted in the wrong track of the door. You can open the door by pulling up on the lever that is on the far right of the back side, then make sure the glass/plexiglas is in the frame channel closest to the play field. If its in the front channel, then your ball could act wildly when you shoot it too hard.

Let us know if this solves your problem. If not, then you may want to post a few pics to give us a better idea of what is causing the problem.

Welcome to the forum! Visit frequently and post often.

Ahaa! Yep. that's it. Didn't realize that there was another, closer, slot for glass. Shoulda looked harder. Anyway, so I pulled the glass out of the outside slot and moved it to the inside slot. Viola! Now, I'll get a new pice of glass for the other slot.
I mostly tinker on really big toys, like my 96,000 lb cableshovel and my WWII tugboaot (see www.seamule.blogspot.com) but, I gotta say, dinkin' around with the backside mechanics of this pachinko machine is really fun...specially while listeing to Car Talk on a Sat morning. It's just really about the little things in life, ain't it?

WELCOME! The second slot is for plexi glass as to not taking the chance of accidental breakage.

the outside glass/Plexiglas seem to muffle the sound of the balls bouncing here and there too..

One of my friends, as well as Mopar here suggested the second slot is an anti-cheating fix for guys with magnets. Sounded reasonable to be... noise? I thought these things were all about noise!!

Oh well, there go my illusions

Ok, here's my crazy assumption about the double glass:

Double glass is used to make you believe you aiming at something that is not really there.

glass/air/glass have different refractive index (1.5/1.0/1.5) so what you see is not actually at the real position you think it is, it's refracted by the glasses twice.
    Something like this:

I understand the possibility of breakage, butdo I have to use plexiglass? It would be quite a bit easier (and cheaper) to use reg glass on the inside...
and, here's a pic of the machine. Not restored, but not in bad shape for 30 bucks.pachinco.jpg

I have a hard enough time getting the ball to go where I want it to with only one pane of glass...

So if a Pachinko ball is shot in the empty parlor and there is no one there to see it... does it really happen???

I've also hear the second piece of glass was to stop cheaters w/ magnets.. not even sure if a magnets work thru one pane? never actually tried.

You can use regular glass. Regular glass will be more scratch resistant than Plexiglas too. Limit damage by balls bouncing on it sometime. Some people use glass inside, Plexiglas outside. It's up to you.

I think many person use Plexiglas because it can be cut easily, available everywhere

I put plexi on the inside and glass on the outside. The plexi makes less noise. MY OPINION ONLY>>> To me the balls hitting the glass make it should cheap. (That should bring some comments!) Also my arrangement allows for a bit softer sounds in my 'man cave' where I have 10 machines and the glass on the front gives it a more 'professional' look and feel. With single plexi, I have found it tends to flex to much and the balls get stuck more often leaning against the plexi.

I still want to hear my Jukebox over the clinking of the balls!

I'm guessing you meant sound? I don't have a comment but I do understand you reasoning for the low noise, but they are pachi's...(not a comment)...and if I had a jukebox I'd want to hear it too.

Okay, for my question...Has anybody ever commented about the different thicknesses of plexi?? To me that is the bigger factor. My first model B had only one thin pane of plexi against the nails and I occasionally got stuck balls or ones that fell straight out. Since I added the real glass to the inside and swapped the plexi to the outer side I haven't had any balls do strange things. One thing I never considered was if I got some thick plexi and it was just as rigid as thin glass. This would reduce noise and increase the strength of that inside piece. I have been on the glass in and plexi out mostly because of the safety in people hitting the front.

I just want to get yall's opinion, because I know the answer is here somewhere!

I buy the thickest 'cheap plexi' that Lowe's sells. It doesn't fit as snug as I wish it would in the grooves, but it's thick enough not to have the flex problem you speak of. I have lots of pieces of that that thin plexi that I have replaced for that very reason. Generally I can get the plexi and glass cut to size at Lowe's for around $20 or so.

I use 1/8" plexiglas for my pachis. It's the a same thickness as glass and is sturdy enough to keep the balls where they should be. My neighbor runs a plastics company and gives me all the plexi i need for free.
