Default 1960's Model A Single Ball Machine - Interesting Feature Discoverd!

I was working on a circa 1960's Nishijin Model A single ball machine last week when I discovered what I thought was an unusual feature that I wish had been carried forward on the later vintage machines. I found a strange linkage that I just had to explore to see what it did. What it turned out to be was a Jackpot Seesaw Reset that could be operated from the front of the machine by the parlor attendant.

All the attendant needed to do was insert a long skinny tool (in my case, and uncurled paper clip) directly into the center of the door lock:

When that tool was pushed in, it would trip a flat lever directly behind the lock. The lever is connected to spring tension linkage that pushes down on the left side of the jackpot seesaw, thus reseting it into the proper position for play:

Now, I've worked on many Model A machines during the past two years, but mechanically this "early 1960's" Single Ball machine seems much farther advanced than a lot of the late 1960's and early 1970's Nishijin Model A machines I have seen. It makes me wonder if there was a demand for single ball machines late into the 60's when the mechanics were more advanced, or were these machines simply that advanced in the early 60's??? The elderly gentelman who owns this particular machine bought it in Japan when he was in the service, and he thinks it was around 1964 or 1965, but isn't sure.

Anyhow, I though I would share this little discovery of mine and see if anyone else has come across such a cool feature.

There is a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

    Wow Jeff,

Besides your discovery of the secret linkage, the mechanics of that machine look to be in stunning condition. I hope your customer realizes what he has!!

    Great stuff, thanks for sharing!!
