    In a recent discussion in the shoutbox, we discussed and compared the various
    costs of items, and we thought wow a good idea for a thread

    Anyway yesterday i made it to the supermarket and armed with the handy reciept i now offer you up some prices for everyday items here in Greece.

    Based on todays exchange rate 1 Euro = 1.36 US dollars

    First off the bigee the cost of gas
    1 liter of regular unleaded costs 1.62 Euro
    (3.78 liters to the US gallon)

    Chicken breast. 756 grams/1.67lbs/26.7 oz
    7.88 Euro

    Farmed Rainbow Trout 1.822 grams/4lbs/64.27 oz
    10.91 Euro

    Pork chops 1515 grams /3.34 lbs / 53.44 oz
    12.48 Euro

    Spaghetti. 500 grams/ 1.10lbs /17.63 oz
    .50 euro

    Brocolli 488 grams / 1.07lbs / 17.21 oz
    .92 euro

    Cauliflower. 984 grams / 2.17lbs/ 34.17 oz
    1.43 euro

    Maxwell House instant coffee. 200grams/.45lbs/7.05ozs
    4.82 euro

    Jasmine rice. 1000grams/2.2lbs/35.72oz
    3.53 euro

    A bottle of coke. 500ml/17fl oz
    .78 euro

    Great idea for a Thread



    I'll try and get some prices posted later regarding some of the items here in the UK, I'm guessing fuel (petrol / diesel) prices are going to be the biggie though, although I believe gallons here are a different measure to the US gallon??

    Friday we paid £1.289 GBP per litre for Unleaded Petrol and that's due to go up again in April...

    Not sure what the current exchange rate is for Euros and $$$$ though

    1Euro=.85 GBP
    1USD=.62 GBP

    And as for Imperial gallons

    1 Imp. Gallon = 4.54 liters

    Are things more expensive in Athens than they are outside the city??

    Lets see..The only things I can think of right now are..

    In Indianapolis, 1 US gallon of "Regular" unleaded is between $2.89 and $3.19 ("Premium" up to $3.39) depending on where in the city you are...And Diesel is between $3.22-$3.56!!

    And a loaf of bread is about a dollar!!

    current gas price here is 3.099 for regular
    publix has chicken breast for $2.99 a pound
    whole chicken 1.19 a pound
    lowest price for white bread is 1.09 a loaf
    a gallon of milk is 3.39

    Chicken breast is expensive in Greece...$10.71 for 1.67lbs?
    I have seen it as low as $1.99/lb here
    Milk is $1.99/gallon
    Gas is $3.04/gallon
    A loaf of white bread is $1.00
    12 pack of Labatt Blue beer is $9.49 + 1.20 deposit
    2 liter of Coke is $1.09 + .10 deposit
    My brand of smokes, Camel Lights are $5.83/pack

    Milk 1 liter = 1.04 Euro
    Bread (French type loaf ) = .70 cents
    Cigarettes Premium (marlboro/camel etc) = 3.70 Euro per pack

    Beer: ( i list a number of them as prices vary)
    6 pack of Amstel cans (330ml)= 4.50 Euro
    6 pack of Heineken cans (330ml)= 5.82 Euro
    6 pack of Mythos (very popular Greek brand) cans (330ml)= 4.80 Euro

    Jack Daniels (700ml) = 23.56 Euro

    Tequila Jose Cuervo (700ml)= 20.98 Euro

    Absolut Vodka (700ml) = 17.40 Euro

    my u.s. made golden bay cigarettes just went up to $33.00 a carton
    carton of marlboros always on sale for a little under $50.00 carton
    regular cartons are around $65.00 a carton
    I buy Remington light little cigars for $2.00 for 2 packs of 20 each
    i try to smoke 2 packs along with a carton to keep the overall price down
