Yes an image of the machine would be good, Where did you get the transformer from,
All modern machines seem to use 24vac, Older vintage just need 10 volts.

Oh and make sure your earth is connected.

Oh Welcome to the board, Always good to have another UK member.
I'm sorry that you are here because of a problem though,

If it is a modern CR machine, You can't beat a daverob dongle. It makes playing easier and more fun. If your lucky, your machine came with one.

If you can't insert a picture here. Post a link to a photobucket page or other.

if it's a standard 24vac transformer that comes with the pachinko, it's input is only supposed to be 100vac, 120vac tops, if your running it on British power, it would be putting out 48 to 50vac, a bit too much.

if you added the transformer yourself are you sure you wired it correctly other wise you just sent 440 volts through your machine instead of 24 volt and yes it will smoke ...

Yeah, transformers convert voltage simply based on ratio. A 2:1 transformer will take 110V in and give you 55V out. But, if you give it 220V, it'll give you 110V out.

a pachislo transformer is a 5 to 1 step down transformer so if you have 120 volts ac and hook it up backward its 120 x 5 = 600 volt ac and you wonder why it smoked ...
