Ok, spent most of the morning doing the following work:
Attached ball rails/tracks. I ended up not using screws as anchors and instead hammered the clipped wire ends into the original holes. Worked fine.
Installed the green triangle ball deflectors above each tulip after applying gold enamel to their raised designs.
Matte cleared the spinners and their bases after painting the bases. Assembled them and installed.
Removed old hot glue from metal coin slot and polished it. Installed new red payout button and new arrow sticker (left overs from Taiyo Mars), as well as the microswitch. Then attached entire assembly onto the machine.
Put the two black triangular ball guides at lower left and right corners of playfield after polishing them.
Repainted and attached lower left "2&4" pocket and lower right "13&15" pockets.
Cleaned, polished, and installed ball staging area plastics. Polished and shined brass playfield protector that sits just in front of the shooter spring tip. it keeps the balls from wearing a hole in the playfield.
Cleaned and polished the brass rod that feeder and counterweight pivot on.
Installed chrome frame with new hardware.
Matte cleared and installed decorative trim around keyhole.
Installed speaker cover at lower left.
Put new "Double Score" sticker on upper left "Stop" plastic trim.
Polished rectangular black number matrix border and attached. Well, it gets attached to the structures in the back which aren't on yet. Plus I'm redoing the number matrix itself to replace the old, faded colors.
That's about it. It looks like the front is mostly done but there's still quite a bit. I have to finish the top center pocket, make and carefully place the 4 number stickers that go on each tulip, and do the final finishing of all the lower front trim plastics. Once all that's done then I'll start with the rear structural plastics and the electronics although I have cleaned the wire harnesses.
    Pics:
A spinner. The large white housing contains a bulb that flashes when the large tulips open. It's a red flash as seen from the front.
    Front.
Closeup of new payout button and sticker.
    Closeup of cel.
    New "Double Score" sticker.
    Pic of brass cel protector.
Staging area dust cover/ball ramp access. Cool cover that swings out thanks to a hinge visible on the left. It snaps closed on the right.

Sorry, the descriptions are out of order of the pics but it's easy to figure out.

One more pic with a couple of trim pieces attached. I'll be busy for the next couple of days but I should be able to finish the rest of the front trim pieces and start dealing with the interior components over the upcoming weekend,

just flew in from Cali on a work-related trip. this trip completely got in the way of working on this machine. i was in the groove- the house is a complete mess with arepachi and pinball parts everywhere (my girl is out of town-i wonder if she'll notice the two new gottlieb pinballs?) and moving right along when i had to leave. i digress. so i am trying to complete the front before starting the back so i resumed work when i got home. I basically just silvered the letters on both of these front trim pieces and then clearcoated both parts. they're still wet in the picture but as the solvent evaporates the clear will recede, harden, and lock in the silver onto the letters.
also in pic 3 the Japanese characters are outlined in silver but it's hard to tell in the pic.

Finished the top center "2" pocket as well as the rest of the plastic trim on the front. I also put a strip of mylar on the inside white edge of the coin tray to better protect it and make it easier to keep clean. The ashtray was full of gunk since it had been taped over to discourage smoking. The rear edge of it is warped slightly from countless cigs being put out on it. Not much I can do about that so I wet sanded and polished it and it came out good.
I also put strips of mylar on both the inside and outside surfaces of the tulips-you can't see it but it's there. I'm referring to the red flaps that open and close, they were filthy and had perfect black lines from the balls picking up trash and leaving it. Anyway, it's overkill for this since it's home use only and the balls running thru it will be very clean. I also put a small circle of mylar right next to the upper right ball bumper. I haven't put the bumper on this machine yet but that area wears quite a bit. I've seen it worn thru to the wood beneath on several machines. Right now I'm working on reproducing the number matrix. I've scanned it in and am cleaning it up as the once bright orange and yellow surrounding each number are severly faded. The original is plexi or lexan so I'll cut an identical piece and use the cleaned up scan to print a water slip decal and place that on the new plastic. That way I'll always have the original for reference. Anyway, once that's done I shoot a coat or two of clear over the decal to permanently adhere it to the lexan. That's the plan anyway.

Yet more pics. I'm making up for not posting any during my Jan Ball redo. Anyway, I put on most of the interior parts minus the token-related ones such as the dispenser, solenoid, coin tube, microswitch, etc. I still have to solder the wires I cut to remove components, replace shooter bumpers with new ones from vintage pachinko, and some other stuff. In the first couple of pics are the microswitch assemblies located beneath each tulip. After a ball enters a tulip it rolls into this device and into the white, counter-weighted, pivoting arm. The arm moves down and releases the ball and in doing so trips the switch to light up that tulip's 4 pockets. The first pic shows it mounted to the frame and the second shows an uncleaned one and a cleaned one. I didn't realize the plastic was smoked clear, until I cleaned them I thought they were black. You can see them in the pic of the rear of the machine, mounted below and to the side of each tulip. They're joined to the tulip by those clear yellow chutes. The green masking tape all over the place is how I label the wires. I just assign each wire a number and then write down what that is on a key taped to the machine. It's easier and cleaner than writing down words on a length of tape,
Other pics are the progress on the machine now. I went ahead and installed the number matrix even though I am going to redo it. I did this so I can play a few games mainly but also so that everything lines up and looks right once it's all back together.

Another thing that was done to this machine by the former owner was to disable the token dispense solenoid. This was done by clipping the wires at the solenoid's terminals so close that there was no remaining wire. When playing this game before the restoration, I'd hear a click from a relay in the back upon payout but no solenoid firing. That's when I discovered the clipped wires and I knew I'd deal with it during reassembly. So now it's that time. But before I dealt with that i decided to hook up the other electrical wires and make sure all that worked so far. I wanted to discover any issues before mounting the token dispense/coin chute frame since a bunch of wires run thru a channel in the back of that frame. So I connected everything, plugged it in, and flipped the switch. I heard the slight hum from the transformer and then I touched the two token insert micro switch's wires together (it's not mounted yet) and heard the ball drop solenoid. So that was good but no sound effects and then I remembered the speaker is still disconnected. Next I flipped the machine around and saw that the score display was correctly showing zero and the 3 LED matrix numbers were spinning like they should. I dropped some balls in a winning combo and the numbers lit up, the spinning numbers stopped one by one, and the score display showed 2. I lucked out and one of the spinning numbers was a 7 so I was able to verify that the spinners lit up and the tulips opened.
I then unplugged the machine to start sorting out the solenoid dispenser. I had the diagram on the transformer itself translated so I knew what color wires were what voltage, and I also knew that the token solenoid was at least 24 volts. So I traced those wires up to the main board since that's their first destination. I then followed the wires coming out of another plug on the same board as they went back down. 4 of the 6 wires were already accounted for so the last two had to go to the solenoid. Luckily my Taiyo Mars and this machine have the same wire color convention so I knew which wire went to which terminal. So I soldered the wires, plugged it back in, put a winning combo of balls in and pressed the payout button. This caused a small flash near at the transformer which I knew was the fuse mounted on top of it, the token solenoid didn't activate, and now the machine had no power. I was 99% sure I had the right wires connected to the right spots and then I remembered that the solenoid terminals were connected to each other by a U-shaped wire which had some small electrical component inline. I thought that was odd and guessed it was placed there for continuity when the solenoid was disabled. So I removed that wire, put in a new fuse and repeated the process to yield a payout of 2. I pressed the payout button and was relieved to see the token solenoid activate twice and no blown fuses. So the machine is now functioning correctly and all the previous owner's modifications have finally been reversed.
This is a pic of all the wires hooked up so I could test the various functions before final reassembly.

just realized i never supplied a pic on this old thread of the finished machine, so here it is. the actual name of it is "full throttle 2" and the clown on the cel is a repro of the circus circus sign in vegas. maybe the japanese designers were fond of that casino.
