    Default Comet II not feeding

Hi I just bought a Comet II and have no idea why it's not working so I did a search and was amazed to find a web site dedicated to these machines! The problem I'm having is that the balls don't get down to the part where the flipper handle is. What happens is they roll down to the center of the machine (in the back) and then don't go anywhere they just back up. After I pull some rods and move some of the plastic stops they empty out through the bottom. Here is a picture of where they are jamming I have removed a plastic cover so that the the balls can be seen. I don't want to just start tearing into things and messing the thing up when it might just be a simple problem Thanks for any help.

    WELCOME

    Gotcha,

The balls are not stuck, they are in a "temporary holding pattern" awaiting payout for you hitting a jackpot. The most common reason you cannot shoot is because there are not enought balls in the back.

When the back is full enough, it will trip a series of levers that will release the block that is preventing new balls from being loaded into the shooter mechanism. When the block is released, you should be able to shoot as many as you wish. The machine does this to prevent you from shooting, because it may not have enough balls to pay you your winnings in the event you land in a jackpot. It's good for you, I promise. It's a preventitive measure so you do not get ripped off by winning and never getting paid out.

Also your second pic shows the ball stop is fliped... you will need to flip the red plastic over so it will not stop balls from going down the path to the jackpot mech..

if your still in a bind.. please feel free to ask any questions...

Thanks for the info that was the problem not enough balls in the hopper, plus I didn't know that there suppose to be balls in the tray below. Now I realize that this is where the balls come from to feed the flipper. I was going to ask about the ball stop in the second picture but didn't want to ask too many questions at once. But I'll ask now... how many balls should go into the jackpot before it pays out? I tried putting them in by hand through the openings on the front but nothing seems to happen. When I push on the lever the balls then come out as they should. Is there a way to test things? Thanks

please fill the top hopper with balls and then take new pics of the back..

one of the top half of the machine and another of the bottom half...

my guess is you have a ball jam

(taking 2 pics gives us better detail )

Ok, look at the attached photo.

Point number 1 is the ball jam that needs to be cleared. Here's what supposed to happen. At #1 a ball falls on to the regulator rocker #2 and then shift position allowing that one one ball to fall down to land on the jack pot relelase lever #3. This in turn pushes upon the connection rod #4 to release a single jackpot. However it appears that either some object is blocking the balls from entering the regulator or the regulator is hung in the UP postion. Solving this problem in imperative to getting the machine working. As you can see in the photos there are lots of balls awaiting the movement through the jackpot process. Even the balls indentified by #5 are in the 'waiting state'.

My suggestion, remove all the balls that you easily can. Then remove the back plastic covers and get EVERY ball out. Put it all back together and refill the top hopper with balls. In this process I suspect you find the culprit.

However, none of what I pointed out is the problem for non feeding of the balls to the shooter. For that process we need to see photo of the mechanics just a little be lower than this one.

Good luck and I hope this helps!

I agree with rusty, there's a bunch of balls in there that need to feed out one-by-one through the seesaw. you might have to pump them through manually. I had my first comet II all backed up like this.

Rusty is right on.. as usual..

some of thouse jamed balls look like there in the wrong position... like the machine was upside while there was allready a ball jam... geting them all out is your priority
