    Default Couldn't resist

Well my parents came up to visit for Thanksgiving and brought me the one that started it all, the pachinko my godfather gave me in the late 70's. It's been up in my dad's garage for the last 18 years . And looks like it This one will probably be a spare no expense restoration. I can tell already, it will need a retrobright treatment, and it will be my first cel replacement. The frame is also pretty rough. But wait, there's more... Since we're a more the merrier family, I drove 2 and a half hours to pick up my mother-in-law from the Indianapolis airport (yes it was cost effective, and we get along), so I went on Craigslist and found a machine in the area for a decent price. Not that I could really tell from the grainy pictures and all, it's a model A conversion machine!!! It even has glass (not plexi) installed. Don't get me wrong, it's not perfect, but it's my first A model, and to top things off, it's got two "extra" winning areas that look to be dragon heads (at least I think they're extra, I haven't seen them on other pictures of similar machines). It's a good weekend

Been busy with my first Cel replacement on my first machine, the Derby above. I found the exact one I needed at PachinkoPlanet for cheaper than I could get it through my local sign shop. Below is kind of a chronology in pictures. It's turning out better than I could have hoped, and it was not as hard as I thought it would be. I still need to retrobright the plastics, but I wanted to see what it would look like.

I used safety wire (some folks call it lock wire) although, I think if you get thick craft wire it'd probably work too. Emmadog does a lot of arepachi refurbs, and I think he was the one that recommended it. You'll have to develop your own technique when you put in the ball track, I found that it worked best if I got the wire through all of the holes before I started tightening it down. That probably seems obvious, but at midnight, I had to learn the hard way...

I already used saftey wire on one machine and it worked out well.

I also made a video on how to install it.

Well, I finished up my retrobright, and I'm now trying to finish up the case. Below is a pretty good comparison of the main Derby feature pre and post retrobright.

    looks good.

Are you going to do a little touch up on the paint? it looks like it is a little thin near the horses eye (on the left looking at it) Interesting sticker on the little half circle. Mine has some shapes on it. But not like yours that actually has a jockey and his horse. Can you post a closeup pic of that please?

I am going to slap that same background on a 1973 with the "rolling stone" (green hexagon) center attraction shortly. The front case still needs about 4 more coats of almond paint, so I can sand off the old background, put on the new one, and bang in a zillion nails while waiting for each coat to dry. It came with the 48S-E background (which I have already reproduced) but I think the "rolling stone" center attraction may look better with the 48S-D that you used on yours.

Can't wait to see pics, the angular shapes ought to go together well.

Finishing up tasks will be some paint and tulip stickers. A couple of drops of gray latex from when my dad was painting trim on his house in the 90s dripped on the machine in a couple of places, one drop on the blue oval next to the horses head, so all of the blue will have to be painted, and while I'm at I may as well finish up the rest. I ordered tulip stickers today. Close up pics below. PM me if you need some better pics.
