    Default Paint recommendations

Hi all. I've recently unearthed my pachinko which has been sitting in a box in the spare room since a house move. I seem to have caught the bug again and yesterday knocked up a basic cabinet using 3/4 inch MDF (based on these plans - thanks to the author!).

I'm looking to paint it today but not sure what paint to use. Do you have recommendations? Is there types of paint I should be avoiding? And is there some sort of clear coat type protector that would work?

Thanks for help - I'll post pics when it's finshed.
    Cheers
    Steve

pink, I would totally go with pink

well honestly don't know for specific paint for MDF, your local hardware store would know what to use. I would go with a color that match the rest of the furniture, black can match anything. But this is also risky, when you will get a new couch and stuff, you will need to make a new cabinet.

so to be sure to not get this problem, i would go with pink.

You'll have to coat it with a primer that's good on MDF. Once that's done you can paint it with whatever you want. I'd probably go with a semi-gloss latex.

    Welcome to Pachitalk

Pink ya ya thats the ticket...

    Really???

like said above a good primer coat then just about anything will work.

black always seems to be safe... or another color to match the color of the game.. or a color to highlite something about the cell design you like...

    or Pink would be cool...

Thanks for replies. Went with Ronseal one-coat which apparently needs no primer as I'm all for getting this done quickly as possible! Can only wait and see how it turns out. Colourwise it was a difficult choice between pink and black

    Black won though

    Welcome to PachiTalk Steve!!

My own cabinet was made of pine wood and was painted white (to match Star Wars Pachinko) we used a Spray paint and it gave a nice finish

Black sounds great too, would love to see how the Ron Seal turned out

    First welcome to pachitalk.
I always undercoat then use Wilkos gloss (I like the red)
I have made quite a few cabs using the same plans.
I have found that although the scoop front looks very nice, the balls are hard to get out if you have fingers like a pack of sausages as i do.
Make the fronts flat and catch the balls in a basket ( Wilkos 2 quid for five)
then you can just tip them back into the top.
Go to your local tip and get flat pack furniture doors for free
    Make your cabs for nowt

The cabinet is now finished although I need to charge my camera battery so pictures will follow. I went for a flat front and am quite pleased with the result. The finish from the Ronseal was not too great but I think this may be more down to using really rough sandpaper.

    Will post pics soon.

In the meantime - I've created this Excel spreadsheet which I plan on using for recording balls in and out of the machine - you just need to enter number of balls bought and give a rough indication of balls won during a jackpot and it will do the maths for you to give you running totals of balls, yen, and pounds.

You'll need a Dave Rob dongle to count the balls going in.

To give a rough measure of balls out I filled the tub I use for winnings using the counter on the dongle.

    Hope that makes sense!

I had a similar spreadsheet going about a year back (sadly lost now after computer upgrade) and it is really interesting to watch the payout stats over time (well, I think so anyway!)

    Cheers

Nice looking cabinet. Thats a heck of a alot of balls.

If you wall mount it, you might want to fit some sort of stop in the tube from the cabinet to the machine hopper. You don't want a couple of thou balls falling through. when you open it.
    you only do it once
