Default Cool that Power Supply down!

    Hey guys!

I've been weiry of my power supply and all the heat its been mustering up. Its rated at 5 amps so I dunno why it gets sooooo hot while my other machines power supply never gets over luke-warm. The other ones wayy bigger and seems of course that its rated higher than what the machine calls for.

You can look for 120 to 24v step down transformers, theres no much of a selection and no info. Basically I'm just not sure and besides I would rather get one thats big and bulky like the other one. I don't want it to get hot! I got to thinking and pulled out a spare PC fan... didn't seem to have enough umgf... On top of that there was no viable way to mount it.

Hmmm... well I decided to glue her to the top of the power supply with a bit of glue on the center and a bit on the edge, even tho the edge has almost no surface to glue to. Rigged it up to a simple 12v wall transformer and boom! A MUCH cooler PS!!

Tomorrow I'll get a toggle switch to put in-line and It'll be finish!

A- The area I used to glue to.(oppisite side)
B- The small edge lined up and then slightly glued.
C- Had to manuver some wires around and screw in that white retainer so that none of the wires would touch the fan blades.

do you have a kill a watt or some way measure how much current it's pulling? just wondering if it's going bad, getting so hot... also, do you have a fuse on it? hate to see

5 amp would be the minimum size for a modern.

I prefer at least 8 amps

The two I bought from you (3 years ago or so) run very cool but some of the vendor installed ones I have will burn your hand after being on for just 5 min. even after they have been on for days and just had a string of fevers they don't get any hotter so I am not worried.

If it seems like it is running hotter than it did when you got it I would be watching it to make sure it is not on it's way out as I have seen transformers die that way (just not on a pachinko)

i remember a vendor on ebay a few years ago saying they only put ul approved transformers on what they sold, and some other vendors used cheap overseas ones, and were a fire hazard.that could have just been a sales tactic,or the cheap ones might not be up to the job.check to see if it is ul listed,it should be stamped on it.

Slotusa and Samurai used 4amp and 5 amp, i think stealth and 5star used 5 amp, all worked fine with all my machines.
and the ones i have left all work great

and our friend Gaku from Texas used beefy 9amp on all his machines.

that was the batch of about 28 9amp that I sold on here for $8.00 each plus shipping about 3 years ago, I wish I would have kept a few of those
    .
the post office loved when i shipped 3 or 4 in a flat rate box

FWIW - I took a careful look at the picture of your x-former. I do NOT see a a nice beefy heat sink, like most of the sturdy ones have. The one you pictured has a metal "covering" around it which IMHO just makes them hotter.

    Also a Q please...
What voltage is that puppy rated for.
ALL Japanese x-formers will be rated at 100V. If you run them higher 110V-115V, they are gonna get hot hot hot.

I can highly recommend the SMR 6-24-1RTC.
    Here is the spec page.

PowerVolt - Slot Machine Transformers, transformers, Custom Transformers

I use them on all my gear, and they never get too warm to touch, and even if they do... they have an internal cutoff that will shut off before it gets too hot, and automatically reset once cool again

Yes exactly! My other PS is bigger and beefier and is encased completely but has no writing on it what so ever. It never gets over luke-warm... Like someone else just said they had some that would burn you 5 mins after turning them on, this ones like an hour and she is HOT enough to burn but I never wanted to push it.

I had seen some talk around here about how there hard to find? I dunno really I've only looked online. There is a semi large elec. store nearby maybe some luck.

Thanks for all the help guys!

    oh oh sorry,

    its

    115-120 input

    24vac 5 amps

I can't look at it anymore cause the fan is glued to it but I remember someone stating 5 amps should sufficient. Maybe it is bad, I got it from a vendor so I assume its only been used mostly since I recieved it.

I wouldn't be surprised if the other ones like 8 or 9 amps, Its just better looking. I'll snap a pic of it tomorrow and post.

    Thanks again!

PS - Here is a 5-amp x-former that was installed in one of the pachis I just got (read the fine print). This gets HOT AS HADES within 5 minutes, and that is with NO playing... just plugged in.

I just replaced this with my "standard" that is only rated 1 AMP higher and now it's not even that warm.

OH and BTW ... I always keep my machines on a powerstrip, and shut them off when not in use. Does anybody else do this ?

While fixing up my flooded basement I had my electrician give me a row of plug molding on each side I had them attached to a on off switch that turns off the entire molding. I then had made sure each side of the plug molding ended up wired to a 20amp circuit breaker!

What does a new PowerVolt 6amp or 8amp transformer cost these days? You can only buy them from PowerVolt directly I believe too. I seem to have 5amp Powervolts on all my machines and so far they seem to work fine. If there was ever a group buy formed I could be tempted to buy a few if they discount was big enough. I know that Slot-Pachinko sells their transformers for $39.99 kind of pricey IF you as me...

    Welcome ty

tis connected to the Giant Seven.
additionally I do unplug the GS after every use. (plugged into power strip as well)
the UteUte Jyanshi (Allwin) has the nice power supply with a (i believe) fused in-line switch. I leave it plugged in because of that but I still don't trust it 100%, I think I'll start unplugging it as well.

So I wrote my friends at Stealth amusement, but no response yet. I used to get them for WAY less than 39.95 (CHOKE/GASP)

Stay tuned, as I am going to try and make a big buy of XFs and share the wealth with all my PachiPals
