We had the same problem with 1000 we bought. I just put them in a pillow case with a towel inside, tied it shut and ran them through the wash cycle in the washing machine. Let them dry on a towel and they were fine.
(Obviously, I took them out before the spin cycle :grin: )

Well I can now speak from experience.
I just finished giving my tokens their bath.
TatooedLady: I tried that first, used Dawn in BOILING water. they did come clean but not as clean as I had hoped. And your right, if these were tokens that I just wanted to clean up a bit, that's the way I'll go next time.(These things were soooo bad, I can see why I got them for the price I did)
Anyway, on to the chemical bath.
I used RKnarr01, Slotter and luckydog's suggestion to use CLR. Being the inquisitive one that I am, I decided to do a little experiment.
my 1000 tokens, I divided into two groups. Both Groups got the CLR bath at 100%, I didn't dilute the CLR, for approx 7 to 8 minutes, mixing and stirring the coins (in a 5 gal. bucket).
Rinsed and rinsed and rinsed, didn't want to skimp on the rinse. After the rinse; and dry, Group 1 got the Tarn-X bath, Group 2 had to sit out and watch. I didn't give group 1 that long in the Tarn-x, maybe 3 to 4 minutes, stirring shaking, mixing etc.. then another thorough rinse, I bet I could have filled a small swimming pool with as much water as I used to rinse.
Anyway with all that said and done, my Verdict is, Yes the CLR AND
Tarn-X bath tokens look the best, BUT would I go to the extra expense and added work to do a 2nd Tarn-X Bath, probably not, once I mixed the two groups back together, I couldn't tell (easily) which ones were
tarn-x'ed and which ones were not.
O yea the Coke test, I added some Ice and poured it into a tall glass and enjoyed drinking it while I was cleaning and rinsing these freaking tokens.
THANK YOU EVERYONE, honestly ! for the info, my tokens look great and I don't have to worry about the grime getting into my machine.

I never put my tokens in CLR full strength as was afraid it would take the plating off. I used about 2/3rds water and 1/3 CLR. Let them sit in that bath for 15 minutes and stirred them around every couple of minutes while they were in there.
(So, we still need someone to do the Coke test...)

Darn Arby - I was just in the middle of testing the Rum and coke , but all I had was some ol run of the mill stuff , now you say I have to use good stuff, can't do that , I have a gallon of the cheap stuf and can't afford the good stuff so someone else will have to do the experment , . PS I will finish this ol bad drink and wait for others and ther experance :wink:

Oh I have never seen Captain Morgan loosen dirt, but it is good on legs matie!
Tank, don't forget for a proper test you must clean at least 1000 tokens. I would suggest dipping them in a little coctail sauce first though. :wink:
