Default Another Hanemono Find "New Red Lions"

Hooray!!! Yesterday, I finally managed to meet with the seller and acquired a Nishijin "New Red Lions." (I'd been trying to set up a meeting with the seller since early August.) It is in pretty excellent shape.

I'm having trouble finding information on it, can anyone help me?

Google abuse of "Red Lion" (レッドライオン) plus mansai777 gives me a page of obviously related machines, but nothing that matches my graphics or has the "New" prefix. The nameplate on the back appears to match my google abuse string, with a P-2 suffix. Do I just have a cell variant?

This was a pack over from Japan, and still has the 100V transformer. I'll check the secondary voltage and see if it is within acceptable limits before I do anything, but I suspect I'll be replacing this before the machine gets a rotation through my game room.

The hanemono play is interesting, with the helicopter spinning its rotor and dipping to trap balls. No music on this one, just helicopter and alarm noises. It is notably LOUD, even by pachi standards... this sucker hurts my ears.

A few other interesting bits on this: A shooter ring that isn't a ring, just a metal bar spanning the upper third of the shooter knob, and the three lights on the play tray. "Play" lights when the shooter is engaged, "End" when the payout tray is empty, not sure about "Full."

Congrats - you got yourself Nishijin's Red Lion P2 there - a beauty!

You're right - really hard to find anything on this machine, but I can tell you this is 'Part 2' of the 1st release of Red Lion and yes, a different board design. The word 'New' is not part of the title of this machine, even though it appears on the board. This is not uncommon.

    Here's a video:
    YouTube - New Red Lions (??? P-2)

Probably the least complex action of all my hanemonos, but it sure is shiny and noisy!!

Yes - Mansai 777 have only a few variations listed (as usual) - TailTrauma has scored a quite beautiful version there! See the attachment below for what Mansai777 lists...

I'm reading the name, by the way, off your name tag in the next to last photo you posted. No mention of the word 'new' there.

I had thought that I should state both the English (read from the cell) and the Japanese title, since the mismatch might be confusing... I titled the youtube upload "New Red Lions (レッドライオン P-2)" (Though the link parser ate the Japanese title my video posting.) Is that incorrect?

I'm not trying to be difficult or obtuse... I do very much appreciate your translations and I prefer to be correct in my presentation of information. (I've got my Pachinko Taishou 13 vids correctly titled now, thank you!) Just not sure how to handle it when there's differing English?

No problem at all - its confusing isn't it?

The easiest way to think about this is: these are Japanese machines made for Japanese users (only). The fact they have English on them is not for our benefit - it's just that the Japanese enjoy using English script for the cool factor. So they often write totally different English on the boards and the name of the machine is not (exactly) a match.

In this case, the katakana for the title reads 'レッドライオン P-2' which is Re-do Rion P2, or Red Lions P(art) 2. Yes, its a new one in the series (Part2 actually ) but the actual published title is what's on that label on the back, and that's as above.

but you call it anything you want mate!

Okay, that makes sense, thanks! It was a stretch for me to think of English script as cool or decorative instead of communicative... but I think I've got it now.

I happily name my machines when they don't have a name ("Ostrichzilla, Clown Hive"), but when the machine already has a name I'd rather be accurate.
