    Default Transformer

Can anyone recommend a decent cheap 120V to 24V transformer? I recently picked up an early modern and it needs one.

    Thanks!!!

I wonder if it will still work since mine is an early modern with a tiny lcd screen. It is for this machine: Fever Fantasy III

I've been keeping my eye on this Ebayer for awhile. Maybe higher Amps then you need but the price is right (you can never have too many amps)

I would say 4amp is the lowest you'd want to go...

The one Microbus99 posted looks like it'd be good for yours!!

    Lightbulb Re: Transformer

FYI any HVAC supply house (Ferguson, Trane, ARS etc.) will have 24VAC transformers most all A/C units use 24V as control circuits. I do know Trane carries a large transformer with a 4A circuit breaker built in & multi voltage input. You could also try & talk to one of your local A/C companies for one.

I have read here and as well as other places, and note Stuey's reply, 4 amp is the min. and a 5 amp is more desirable for long term usage.

That's hard to answer, and nobody wants to give optimistic advice when there's danger involved.

The best answer is "Maybe. Probably? Be Careful!"

If you are not confident working with line current, please get somebody who is to help you. You are correct to have a healthy respect for it... The primary voltage could kill you, and the transformer could cause a lot of damage and danger if overloaded and left alone. However...

My Dracula's Castle has the "Archer" version (old Radio Shack) of the exact transformer you ordered. It works fine. (Dracula's Castle shows that it wants 24V 5A on the 'lectronix box.)

Mine works and doesn't get excessively hot after running for hours.

Here's the thing: Your machine might have different characteristics, so use your OWN best judgment.

It is unlikely to immediately explode, catch fire, or make your pachi to go 'Bang' if hooked up correctly. The most likely scenario if the pachi loads it too heavily is that the transformer overheats, smells funny, and dies. If you are confident in what you're doing, you can try it. It is working for other people.

Well said . I was waiting for someone to say "Yes, I've used one of those before!". I ordered the 5A one too, just in case the 2A doesn't work. Thanks y'all.

    Hello Pachi Pals,

The problem with an under-rated x-former, is the amount of heat that will be generated. The higher the Amp rating is on x-former ... the less work it has to do, and the less heat it will generate.

The danger with putting an under-rated power supply on the machine, is the risk of over-heating. When the Pachinko is fevering, lights blinking, music blaring, LCD displaying... well you get the general idea.

I would suggest that a 4Amp is the minimum rating for a stand-alone machine. Add a BC and 5amp should do ya just fine.

I always buy the ones that have thermal protection, so that if it DOES overheat, it will cut itself off.

    Enjoy
    RR

PS - 5amp will do the trick for ya

Speaking of transformers... I so luckily have a Giant Seven as well as the Mahjong machine. I want to find another transformer for the Giant Seven because it gets sooooo hot! Funny thing is my Ute Ute Jyanshi's (Mahjong) power supply won't even get luke-warm after continuous play. That would mean the cooler PS / Transformer is of ither higher quality or higher specifacations than what is needed. I'm certianly not positive but after the same amount of play I fear the PS on the Giant Seven may Flare up or something. That is simply NOT cool at all...

basically run it with what you have until the smoke comes out. If you let the smoke out it stops working.
