    Default DX Nishijin

    Hi!

Finally picked up my first Pachinko machine. Got it off the auction site.

I bought it as a restoration project but I don't think there's a huge amount to restore. It seems to work plugging a few balls through, but until I buy a few hundred or more I won't know what needs fixing in regular play.

It's a DX Nishijin, but apart from that I can't seem to find a sticker to date it, and can't find much info online. Could anyone point me to a few links on here of similar/identical machines?

    Thanks!

The website below has some gallerys with a lot of machines, you may be able to find something there. There's also a good area on how to figure out the date based off of the sticker, but if it's missing

Pachinko Machines, Manuals, Balls, and More - Vintage Pachinko, LLC

I like to look at all the machines in the galleries, it's amazing all of the different types that are out there.

    Welcome to the addiction!!

You have a very nice machine there and in really good condition!! Only suggestion I can make for clean-up is to use some fine steel wool on the chrome parts to remove the rust and shine it up.

Congrats on your new Pachinko machine!!

Looks like it's a Nishijin A from the back end (compared to a pic on the VP site)... Hope to get more balls next week so I can set it up properly.

There's a few things to restore. The electrics look like they were modified and botched by a previous owner, but they removed the lock which was handy. The perspex needs replacing, and the machine is a bit sluggish (and I can't get the jackpot payout working because I don't have enough balls), so I may need to strip and scrub a lot of parts.

Thanks for your comments so far. I was pretty exhausted last night (day-long road trip to collect this item), so hopefully tonight after work I can get started with pictures and cleanup.

Hey Mopar, that's pretty identical to mine.

Thing I've found is it doesn't want to pay out the jackpots, so I'm wondering if there's a sticky part or if it needs more balls or what.

When the ball needs to go into the see-saw it doesn't seem to get through down and pay out. It a few times but quickly jammed up in play, so now I can't keep track.

The machine has a tiny bit of water damage on the top at the front, and the levers and metal parts all look corroded. After a cleanup, I think I need to work out how to remove the covers from the payout area to see if something is jammed.

It seems like the balls are too light, the levers don't return back to position after a payout. This causes intermittent payouts... I've bent into a V-shape the bar that hits upward on a payout (the double-thickness one), which has forced the plastic to almost return to position, but it's like it's missing a spring, weight, or lever

Think I've sorted it now, just need more balls to keep all the failsafe levers from stopping a payout.

Had a play around with a 4x AA battery holder and wired it to the lighting.

Since I don't have enough balls for the top tray I put some plastic in the switch to keep it open and the light off.

I guess it's a normal thing that if the jackpot light blinks it means there's a problem - for me this is happening after a payout because either a ball is jamming or I don't have enough balls to force the levers back into position.

On the front the payout window is way too dark, so I've decided to put a bulb in the cover that sits there. I tested a bulb that's way too bright, but it looks good. It only lights while the switch is closed for the payout (I've wired it in parallel to the jackpot bulb).

Ideally I want to put bulbs or LED's into the little green cubes next to the payout window... Then again I might go crazy and light other parts - starting to see how these evolved into such bright and noisy modern machines.

theres nothing wrong with it.. thats how it is suposed to work.. the lights for the jackpot turn on and back off once for each payout cycle..

    Its working

Thats a nice Model A. I have one very similar that I replaced the playfield on. It has the same center feature as yours.

I really like the A's. The recycling feature as well as the delicate bell sound are really nice. I also like when the rear upper tray refills the center tray. It catches you off guard sometimes!

    Enjoy your machine!!!

Back home from work now, so I soldered a couple wires to the jackpot light, and ran them to the bulb down for the payout window. The seesaw doesn't want to return back up properly, which is keeping the switch closed. I'm not sure what's left to rectify this apart from a bit of a knock on the machine every time...

I cut away some of the plastic from the white cover, which allows the bulb to shine through, and used new wire to attach a 6V battery to the power supply with clips.

This isn't an easy machine to win on, probably because those tulips love to stay closed. Shame I've not yet sorted the sluggish seesaw for when it *does* pay out.

thinking about it. Might not be a good idea to run 12volts through the light bulbs due to the heat generated. Wouldn't want to damage or distort something. Halfords and Maplins do white LED lamps already set to 12volts , as replacements for cars.
