Default New to the site, pics of my machine and some questions

Well, the title says it. I just happened upon this site while looking for maintenance instructions for my machine, which I inherited from my father. It's a Nishijin, and I believe it's vintage, but that's about all I know. Anything you can tell me about this particular machine would be greatly appreciated. I would very much like to take it apart and clean it, as I'm sure it hasn't received any such attention in two decades or more, and would love some guidance as to how to go about that. I saw the service manuals, and the cleaning guide, and I'm just wondering if there's anything I need to do specifically for my machine, or if those guides pretty much cover everything.

I was going to post photos here, but my pictures are way over the attachment limits, so I put them up on flickr: Flickr: Ghinn's Photostream

As you can tell from the first picture, there appears to be some water damage on the graphic, but since it's only there, I think it's more a result of age than any actual damage. The shooter works, albeit not great, and I'd like to fix that as well. I believe the main problem with it is that it's dirty, and a good cleaning will make it shine, but there could also be damage from years of use and storage that I either can't see, or am unable to diagnose with my current knowledge.

    Thanks for your responses!

The shooter is the only thing that I know for sure is kind of "off" about the machine (it works, but sometimes it doesn't. It feel loose, like sometimes it catches a ball and sometimes it doesn't, but there may be other things wrong, and I just don't know. I'm actually in the process of moving, which is why I unearthed the machine and decided to fix it up. As soon as I'm able, I'll take more pics, probably later this weekend. The only reason I didn't post them on the site is because size- and resolution-wise, they're enormous. I'll try with the first two, and if those work, I'll take and post more.

Okay, so it's a model "A". What about it told you that, the orientation of the workings in the back, or the layout of the front? I see that there are also models "B" and "C". What's different about those, and is there a difference in scarcity/value between them? Also, I couldn't find a date anywhere on the machine. Do you know an approximate date of manufacture/use, or is there a place I can look on the machine itself for that information? There is a stamp that says it's reconditioned, and was imported by a company in California, Target Abroad LTD. A search for them is how I wound up finding this site.

in your pics i did not see a date sticker.. that would confirm its use time in the pachinko parlor.. but if i were to guess i would say ya have an early machine.. 1973 74 75 somewhere like that..

hear is a vid on a machine like yours.. and there are others in the vintage sticky section as well

    http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/vint...del-video.html

post a pic of your shooter and ill see if i have one similar for ya to look at..
    ______________________________________________________
"b" machine seem to be the most comon... then "A" machine and last is "C"..

value is in the buyer's eye.. i have seen machines sell for way more then i would ever pay.. and see people pass up nice machines for 10 or 15 dollers...

    value is a tought one

First pic is the whole thing, second through fourth show the trigger being pulled back, last one is a close up. The action on it is great, but sometimes it just doesn't shoot a ball.

Are you sure that a ball is loading every time? Trash in the loader could hang up balls, I had one do this would load then stop loading, then start loading, a good cleaning fixed it.

Do you know how to open the front upper tray door (below the glass)? I would open this up and see if you have some junk in there.

By the way, on your machine, the lever to release the door looks as if it was pulled up too far. This lever should be pushed down to release the door. Or maybe its just the quality of the photo.

the back looks good.. sometimes its hard to tell in pictures..

but i agree.. open the front and see that the tracks are clean..

also keep in mind that pachinko are built to shoot 100 balls per minute.. so if your shooting it to fast them machine is unable to keep up

    Nice Machine
Welcome to Pachitalk!I'm sure you'll be able to find all of the help you need on this forum. I had similiar problems with balls loading into my shooter, and it was as simple as cleaning out the dust bunnys in the mechanisms.

This machine hasn't shot 100 balls in the last decade, let alone a minute. For the last 4 and a half years, it's been between storage and my closet, and before that it was with my father, but I'm 100% sure he only had it out for display purposes. Tomorrow I'll open the front up and see if there's any dust or grime on the tracks/near the shooter. I'll take and post pics of that.

Also, I have a large number of pachinko balls, some of which are nice and shiny, and some of which are quite rusty. The rusty ones were in a separate container, not sure why he (my father) kept them. Unless there's some way to clean them? There are a few that are lightly rusty, but am I better off just ditching any that aren't spotless? I'm pretty sure I have enough that I wouldn't miss them, and I could give the rusty ones to my kid brother to shoot with his slingshot.

    Welcome !!!

Model A machines like you have recycle the losing balls back into the win tray in the back. Other models, B and C , will have all played balls drop to a bucket in the back of the machine.

Like was said here, open the shooter door and open the shooter mechanism and do some cleaning. Maybe the shooter is a little sticky. I had to take apart the shooter mechanism on a sankyo model I had. very dirty... but works great now..

Good luck and post pics. of the shooter mechanism. From the back your pictures look ok to me.. problem could be with the shooter mechanism in the front.

Lots of model A's seem to have the water damage to the cell. It seems to have been done in the way they cleaned these machines. The cell is lamenated paper, so water is a no no . or just be very quick and careful when cleaning the cell. Water damage would depreciate the value, if you're collecting these for investment purposes. (thats my 2 cents). I think most people here love pachi's, even with their imperfections... so it becomes a "what is it worth to me" type of situation.

Congrats and good luck, be careful , they multiply !!!

a model "A" machine would run on as few as a 3 or 4 of hundred balls

but having something closer to a thousand will make things more fun
