i like glass in both.. cleaner and sounds better..

but i have no little ones to worry about..

so glass on the inside and plexi on the outside to be safe

    safety first

Tempered glass runs about $18-$25 per piece.

I do love the sound it makes with the glass, it is quite a difference, but with little ones, true, plexi is safer... but no other sound like it

I'm different.. so I'll throw my comment in here. In machines that I have deemed as 'completed' I will always replace the 'clear stuff'. While I've tried it with the glass in the back, to me the 'clicking' that the balls make on the glass sounds to much like 'cracking'. The duller sound of the plexi is more 'pleasing' to my ear.

Thus, I always put in two sheets. The inner sheet will be plexi and the outer sheet will be glass. This set up allows for a more 'sophisticated' appeal with the glass up front, keeps the players from trying to 'tap the glass' in efforts to manipulate the balls and makes the machines a lot quieter to boot.

So.. there ya go... my opinion which I'm sure EVERYONE wanted!

When I called the local glass guy about tempered glass for a couple of pinballs, he quoted around $6/square foot.

now my next glass question would be for the top of the machine. im going to build a box hopefully this weekend out of plywood like http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/pach...check-out.html but have the top windowed so i can see the balls like http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/pach...-complete.html but about 6-7'' till window. i know i came a cross one in the cabinet thread like what i have in mind. ok time for the glass question, for the 21"x 7" glass window does any recomend a thickness in either glass or temperd. once again im hoping to eventually get a bunch of balls up there. that reminded me of the pic it was three modern pachi together with 8000 on each one. i did ruff math and i found that one ball is about 7.57grams x 8000 = 60560 grams. grams to LBS and waalaa 133.511LBS. i prob have to take those numbers to a glass person

Out of all the cabinet designs I have seen here with a clear top hopper, I'm not sure I remember any of them using glass..I'm not sure that sounds too safe to me..but I'm no glass expert!!

Is this the one you were thinking of??
