Top Gun -- Afterburner & Gun Button Working?

I have a new (to me, anyway) Top Gun and I am not sure if the afterburner & gun buttons are working correctly.

After initial power-up the buttons will light and make the appropriate afterburner/gun sound when pressed, but once a ball enters a Start Pocket and the wheels spin, the buttons no longer light nor make the sound. Not during missions nor any game play. The only way to get the light & sound is to reboot.

The electronics run a "Self Test" on every time you turn the power on that cell. Have you hit the big fever on it yet ?

No. I'm currently just flailing away with the missions.

My previous post is the reason I am asking...

If you want someone to fail a mission, I'm your man. Maybe I need to turn in my wings.

I might need the afterburner to takeoff (or maybe I'm on crack) -- if so, that button works for that. Both buttons work for background LCD effects as well (Tomcat & Cessna flyby, fireworks). It just doesn't seem right that I don't get the button sound effects except on initial boot (and that I suck that bad at missions).
