I just picked up a Rotamint Brillant ! I work on Reel to Reel Tape Decks and LOVE Vintage Stereos in General. I've had my hands in around 100 pinball machines, 2-300 Arcade games (Coin Op) and a fair amount of Pachislos and slots in general over the years so I have a good working knowledge of coin Op stuff anyways. These Rotamint slots are Really Cool! I actually ran 220 60Hz into this machine and everything came up and ran. Looks like when you first power them up they cycle and go to a home position. Once it did that, the 220V transformer smoked. That's OK, a lot of things can be done with replacement of that, BUT... I'm having trouble with one thing. The previous owner did a little hacking in there, perhaps the smoke issue to begin with, This transformer has a Red/Black stripped wire coming out of one of the windings. I can't find it in the Schematic. My 7th grade German class escapes me unless I need to count to 20

Anyways, I think what this guy did was run 220 into the output and dumb ol Me comes in and energizes it. The Red/Black wire, I assume is on the output going to ??? Does anyone have any clue, a picture, knowledge on this. It is a 28 volt output running the logic portion of the game it seems.

Any guidance would be appreciated on my end.

    Welcome to PachiTalk!

I am just a little ways south of you in VA. I really do not have any experience with the Rotamint machines but there are several members here who do.

I would suggest starting a new thread with some pictures. This should get quicker attention. Good luck with the machine, I am sure you will have it up and running in no time.

Hey Hi, yes you're just down the street from me. What I did was pull the X-former and wired a 24VAC transformer I had laying around then re-connected the 220 where it was originally and it came to life ! Gummy ratchets and such but it does what it was supposed to for the most part. Not sure if rolling 60Hz is bad for these things as they were setup for 50Hz??

Anyhoo, I uploaded a video to youtube. Rotamint Brillant by Zcuckoo should get you there.

Thanks Much for the Welcome CS, I Appreciate it.

I think I may have answered my own question about the 50Hz thing. after running the machine for an hour or so, the Run Cap blew for the reel motor. Oil EVERYWHERE. Poof

It's a 360Vac 1uf. or maybe it was a 380. Well anyways, the motor was so hot I couldn't touch it, I'm kicking myself for not watching it more closely.

I had another run cap out of a tape deck I put in and the motor is still good and it still runs. I need to find a decent replacement for it and lube the whole thing before other issues come up. LOTTA stuck stepper wheels in it.

That's a very cool machine and vid. I've always been intrigued by those Rotamints and it looks like now I'll have to pick one up. Good luck with it.
