Default Replacing bulbs with LEDs story

I thought I'd write down my electronics experiences from last night replacing some of the bulbs with LEDs. I have an Elenco Pachislo who's name I don't know because it's all Japanese characters. Two of the three 24V bulbs indicating coins have been inserted were burned out and it looks like it's difficult to find replacements. So I bought some white LEDs and holders and mounted them into the holes where the bulbs used to go. I wired up the LEDs nicely and avoided shorting anything. I chose about 1Kohm .5W To be nice and bright at about 20mA of current. This was a mistake. After about a minute on the power to all the electronics went out. Fortunately there seems to be an automatic reset for this power supply and after I removed the light board and cycled power a few times the power came back. 20mA x 3 is too much current apparently. Also it's too bright. These lights should be more subtle. They're working ok now at 2K (~10mA) but I'm going to reduce it even more to make them less obvious. I'm probably going to cut the current by another 50%. In the mean time, I think the initial high current may have fried something in the control circuit so that all 3 lights are on all the time now.

So the moral of the story is that yes, I think the bulbs can be replaced with white LEDs, but use small amounts of current. I think 5 to 7mA will be fine. I hope this helps anyone else thinking about doing the same, but I'll add a disclaimer that your mileage may vary so be careful.

Figured out it's a Hanabi Hyakei machine. I think it's going to take a bit to bring this machine to 100% again.

I tried replacing the large florescent bulb with a same sized (but easier to find) bulb, a F10T8 and this light is flickering. I'd almost consider it a cool effect if I didn't suspect the bulb isn't going to last too long doing this.

I also tried replacing one of the small bulbs in the LCD backlights. It didn't fix it, so I'm guessing the ballast part of that light is broken. I think my next step is to call some companies that sell these machines to see if they have a replacement.
