    Default Arcade destruction

I saw this on KLOV and had to share it here for those of you that don't get over there much.

Below is a picture from China. The workers are smashing up various arcade machines most likely from Japan. What a sad site to see. I see candy cabs and various other machines in there that could fetch some good money here, whether they are working or not. Someone needs to buy these and ship them in a bulk container back to the USA. Seems like a money maker to me.

Happens all the time over here. Arcades are not actually legal. Which is surprising considering the amount of counterfeit crap you can pick up so easily... Every now and then they have a massive purge and this is the result.

Why bring them over in the first place if they are going to destroy them?

Ahhh, much like they do with pachinko machines I suppose. I heard they like to recycle the screens on old pachi's.

They probably missed a payment to the local government official in charge of extor... er... local businesses... Thing is, every machine is token based. Even the video games... So you buy token to play on it, but they still don't accept it as a way around gambling law.

Going off topic: I've lived here for 5 years and the things that tick me off = no decent arcade machines, pachis are illegal, no decent food, the internet is strictly controlled, people stare too much, people hock and spit everywhere you go, no one queues, everyone pushes past or cuts in line, the toilets are filthy and stink no matter where you go, the educational system is more of a dictator ship, people of China actually believe communism is great when they're actually living in a capitalist system... The list goes on. Thank heavens I'm on my last year's contract. Might see if I can get in the good books of the local government bulli... er... business people... Then I can grab some of those machines before they destroy them

Ahh look at all those candies!

Games get dumped or converted all the time over here too. There's a tipping point where they aren't really worth anything anymore to people, not commercially either.. so out comes the hatchet. This happened a lot back in the late 80s and 90s before the collector market really picked up. I still remember how happy the ops were that we were buying the old games as they were basically worthless to them at that point. It's like all the really bad conversions you see. Classic games converted into whatever the Jamma flavour of the week was.. but it was all about money and at some point a generic shooter made more bank than a flakey Star Wars or a Joust.

It's sad, but what can you do.
